I have purchased a G2 pistol in .22lr. Wanting to mount a scope but not sure which one to get. Any suggestions? Will be using this for tree rats, etc.

It all depends on how you want to shoot it

I used to shoot NRA Silhouette matches and the TC was the gun of choice for 95% of the competitors. While a few competitors did use pistol scopes most of us used rifle scopes. ALL of the top competitors used rifle scopes. The scope of choice was Leupold. Both of my scoped guns were set up with with fixed 12x Leupolds. We saw everything from 3x9's all the way up to fixed 36x's.

With the 22 it is no problem to bring the gun up close enough to your eye to see through a rifle scope. You simply hold the pistol grip in your dominant hand and lay the fingers of you off hand over the top of the scope while your thumb goes under the fore grip or the barrel. This is actually a very steady way to hold a pistol, moreso even than the standard two hand grip with out- stretched arms. So, in answer to you question, put a good rifle scope on it. A 3x9 will probably be more than enough for squirrels and punching paper. I do like my Leupolds but unless you are constantly adjusting them any decent scope will do.

If you have to have a pistol scope the LEUPOLD 2.5X8 is a great scope. You can sometimes pick up fixed 4x power leupolds fairly cheap used. I won't suggest a red dot cause personally I do not like them but just hold on cause someone will.

On a 22, one of the NcStars will do you. I'll be putting a 2-7X NcStar on mine as soon as it gets here. Leupies are nice, but kinda overkill on a 22. For abit over 150 the Bushnell Trophy is a pretty decent scope, I use that one on my 308.

I am looking at a Weaver 2.5-8 pistol scope. Anyone use one or have an opinion?

I have 2x on mine and it's plenty. I don't really think a variable is all that desirable on a handgun, maybe higher power for 200 yard shooting in my .30-30 barrel , but for hunting, 2X fixed 'll giterdone.

I found a used Dan Wesson branded 2x pistol scope at a gun show for 75 bucks for my .22 barrel. It's worked fine, popped quite a few tree rats so far.

That is the question

that you should have asked first. I have no experience with that particular scope but have been impressed with the Weavers in General. I got a slightly used 2x10 on a rifle that I bought last year and I have to say that I was quite impressed. I wouldn't hesitate to buy the weaver if you like it.

No, I don't know the term that you speak of. I shot my scoped TCs this way for 10 years or more. This Hold was so popular that some of the top shooters developed and produced Iron sights that could be used close to the eye in conjuction with a full length hood to facilitate the same hold. I bought and shot with Iron sights fro KEN light for a couple years. I still prefer the old way when it comes to Irons but for scopes, the hold that I described won a lot of matches.
