I'm looking for powders that give off a lot of flash. Mostly for pistol powders. I know Blue Dot does because when I use it for my 10MM Glock it is really pronounced. But does anyone know of powders that are even better for high muzzle flash?

For what caliber, 10mm? Blue Dot is about the best, Power Pistol also.

if 'flash' is your goal; rather than velocity or power--
as in wanting to light up the range at dusk or picture taking--
chosse the slowest burning powder for the weight bullet you are reloading with. Lymans' 49 is a start.
perhaps you may wish to cange bullet weight after some expermenting.

me, i went in the other direction--
to minimize flash & smoke with my p-239/40
for night & flash lights shooting.

either way--a goal is to be had

Power Pistol is a good one. Never noticed just how flashy it was, until I shot inside at a poorly lit range:cool:. Outside shooting, you don't notice a thing.

Sorry guys. I should have been specific with the caliber I was trying to achieve this with. I was only using my 10MM as an example. What I'm trying to attain this muzzle flash is with a Raging Bull .44 Mag. But I just recently purchased this gun and haven't experimented with many powders yet.

2400 should flash more than Blue Dot because it combusts less efficiently.

For flash I would say, the shorter the barrel and slowest burning powder the better.
But that's just my guessing.

I shoot the 500 S&W out of a rifle and there is no flash at all. Noise is retarded quite a bit too. But the destructive power is awesome.

In the .44 Mag W296/H110 will give the the most flash. At dusk it will put on a light show with a flame close to 1 foot past the barrel.

How about something even slower than H110, like 1680 or even Rel-7? (I think a duplex load with about 3 or 4 gn of Red Dot with a caseful of black powder on top would be interesting)

power pistol flashes pretty good out of my 9. 2400 out of my .357 magnum is a retina burner. I might be an idiot but I'm no SOCOM operator and I like a little bit of theatrics sometimes. Hands down best are my Lee 1oz Slugs out of my 12Gauge 870 - 34grains Herco - ka-blammo!

My defense and carry ammo is another story, I use Remington Golden Sabers, low flash and hard hitting

As you can tell I'm an Alliant guy when it comes to reloading
