Here the senario; China invades the U.S. in a surprise attack and because our militaary is caught of gaurd they occupy the nation ala Red Dawn.

Out of these two rifles, which is better and why? Remember that parts and ammo are going to have to come from secondary sources because China has shut down all the gun shops and the is a ban on selling any gun related item.

AK or Ar-15?

Do you want what our forces carry or what the enemy carries? Which ammo would be easier to obtain? It is a tough question because it depends on many factors. It is just a interesting thought so don't get too worked up about it.

I can't really decide. Every time I think I would pick one of them, other factors enter into the situation. AK for reliability and the possibility of obtaining ammo from the dead Chinese soldiers that have been sniped. AR-15 for accuracy and the possiblity of getting ammo from friendly forces.

I would also expect to encounter these 5.8 mm rifles, good luck finding domestic ammo. It seems even the Chinese are getting rid of their AK's.

I would have to say get the ar-15 then use it for more precision shots until you could pick up an ak for some closer fast shooting since the ammo would be more plentiful. keep the ar-15 with you though for when you need the better accuracy. Thats my take. Major

My Remington .300WinMag Sendero with the Nikon 6.5-20 Scope. With it, I can have my choice of enemy weapons.

I think I'll shoot their machine gunner first, and then their mortar crew. After that, I'll be well armed indeed!

Concern 1- First I would get a source of fire. Then I would get some good English tobacco. Next I would pack my pipe. Light. Enjoy.

Concern 2- Secondly I would get a smallish glass. Then pour Jameson. Sip. Enjoy.

China has no way of transporting a significant number of ground forces to the U.S. Unless you count the Red Chinee Armee in the bonded Costco warehouse in California ;)

I would also go with the scoped bolt-gun as my first choice.
That, and any field-expedient nasties that I could make for them.

And just how are the Chicoms going to approach the US without us knowing about it? The Pacific is a big lake.

Don't get me wrong, I think "Red Dawn" is a fun piece of entertainment, but it is so un-realistic, especially in todays climate of total domination of the US armed forces (the West Europeans are the only challenge and they are on our side). Did you know that some say that "Red Dawn" was Ronald Reagan's favorite movie?

That said, I would take my AR-15 over an AK anytime.

I'd START with an AR, since there's no AK in the Scout family armory. I'd want to link up with friendly regulars and pick up an M16 from their supplies, but it prolly wouldnt matter too much if I 'borrowed' AK74 if I started running low on 5.56 (I've heard 5.45 AKs are almost as accurate as factory AR15s). I don't know about the reliability or accuracy of the 5.8mm Red X  :D ;)

I forgot that most armies that carry Aks are not using 7.62x39 anymore.

I too would rather have a scoped bolt action. I don't really want to be in ANY situation that requires 30 quick shots. I would rather be 800m out taking pot shots at officers than having to slug it out at AK ranges.

I said the Chinese only because they are the only nation in the world that could concievable invade the U.S.

In the "Red Dawn" scenario, the Americans who fought in the occupied areas were in fact guerillas. Quite effectively in the movie, they used hunting rifles initially to raid communist convoys and "liberate" arms, ammo and other supplies from the invaders.

In that case, you would arm yourself with your enemy's weapons and as long as you could stay victorious in your battles, you'd have an ample supply of arms until you either died, were captured or defeated the enemy.

I guess that would likely be the AK, but they might also be using M-16s, M-4s and SAWs from captured U.S. depots.

If they hit the shores of PRK (peoples republic of California) we be in short supply of AR's here, very short. AK's more or less are in the same trucks traveling east. What the heck, our state representatives would probably welcome them with open arms.

Since I agree with maintaining my distance I'd have to select this M1 the DCM was so kind to sell me. I keep a small supply of fully jacketed target ammo on hand and an abundant supply of clips for it so it's my first choice. After that, it's scrounge for what ever’s available.

I don't know if this scenario isn't all that impossible, with the so many shipping containers coming from China and what an opportunity it would be when the majority of our troops are fighting terrorists around the world, Sadam in Iraq and if N. Korea became and incident we'd be stretched pretty thin. What a conspiracy theory this would make. Wonder what would happen if we tried to claim bankruptcy on them for ALL those PRODUCTS they're shipping to us. It's really out of hand now. Seems like everything is made there and nothing here anymore.

So if you are preparing for the unrealistic "Red Dawn" scenario, are you also preparing for the "When Mars Attacks" scenario as well and stocking up on Slim Whitman albums? I figure both are about as realistically possible as each other.

My favorite "Red Dawn" scenario was.....

snuggling with Lea Thompson around the campfire!

Wolverines!!!

With a billion+ Chinese---seems like you would have to kill 5 or so per man to even be on a level playing field.

If all the Chinese jumped, the world's center of gravity would shift and we'd fly out of orbit. Mutually assured destruction.

More likely Lulac and Mecha will claim Atzlan and homeland security will say : "It is not politically or culturely possible to militarize the border". Whoops Tom allready said that! Its Ok though because he WILL disarm US Citizens! Try rubberband guns.:cuss: :fire: :banghead: :what:

What if they filled all those shipping containers with Troops and supplies? They could flood all of our Ports with Red Chinese soldiers!! Then, at a prearranged time, they all pull the old Trojan Horse thing, and we're at war!!
Okay, there is that food and oxygen thing I haven't worked out yet....
Logistics is a bitch...

I realize that the Beltway Bandits are dumber'n hammered dirt about defending the country, but I'm sorta dubious they'd shut down gun/ammo sales in the event of an invasion. They expect all us Rednecks to join up with the Chinese?

Question: How do the Chinese get here in enough numbers to matter? You promise the Crips and Bloods full pardons if they "do" the Chinese, and it would be over quick-quick.

More real-world: If you lived in rural southern Arizona, what would be your tactics for daily living/working/survival?

Actually, Hitlery Klinton, Dickie Gephardt, Johh McCain, etc are FAR greater threats to American security and the U.S. constitution and way of life than the Chinese military ever will be.
