I am thinking of selling one of my surplus rifles to purchase a Saiga 20 gauge for my wife, a friend of mine let her shoot one so now she wants one. Here is one of the rifles I am thinking of selling
1Universal M1 carbine
2 Unissued Russian SKS
3 Springfield M1 Garand from CMP

Keep the russian and the m1 as they seem to hold their value pretty good, but while i like m1 carbines the universals are the lower end of the m1 spectrum and ammo is way too high for what it is. Russian sks are the top end of the sks spectrum and while i sold mine to fund my ar purchase (wouldnt have done it but that s&w mp 15 my friend had was too good of a deal to pass up) and i will be buying another russian in the future.

I voted for not selling any of them. If you look around your house, the chances are that there are many things laying around that could be sold for cash. Failing that..........sell blood or that extra kidney. :D

I second the selling of various bodily fluids. Not only will it get you money, but it will get you positive karma because you helped someone out.

If I'm not mistaken, the Universal M1 Carbine was post war commercial production and is not collectible at all, in which case it would bring the least amount of all. But that is the one I'd sell if absolutely necessary.

His wife liking the Saiga 20 ga doesn't mean she'd like a 20 ga pump as the auto softens recoil a lot. Twenty rounds of slugs or 3" 00 buck are no problem from my Saiga 12, but out of a pump I'm usually happy to quit at half that.

Once converted back to the evil pistol configuration IMHO Saiga are not over rated at all and in their stock configuration they are still one of the lowest cost autoloading shotguns. The pistol grip parts can be accumulated as funds permit and done at your leisure.

I would say sell none and just save pennies a little longer. If you had to, it would be a toss up between #1 and #2 for me.

I voted to just buy a 20 ga. pump -- Mossberg makes a 22" barreled pink marble stocked 500 variant that is seriously perfect all around gun for a gal (see below and click-on-pic). Then I noticed it was a Universal M1 carbine. SELL IT -- these are the days! Skip the Saiga either way and get the Mossberg as a nice surprise...

The Mossberg 500 Super Bantam shotgun model 54147 is specially designed for young ladies. The pink marble adjustable synthetic stock has an appealing look. But don't let looks fool you. This is a serious shotgun, with a 22" vent rib barrel, twin bead sights, Accu-set chokes, and modular butt stock pads for adjusting length of pull.

Just not sure what a 30carbine does that an SKS can't (don't really understand them).

Sell it and get that Saiga!

sell the carbine if you have to, but its better if you just buy the saiga & keep the rifles you already have.

Al LaVodka my wife wants one of those damn shotguns!! Every time we go to the gunshow she wants to take it home......One of these times i'll cave. Whats a good price for one of those Pink Mossys?

Sebastian is correct. Is your Garand's bore/rifling etc in really good condition?

Nobody wants to keep them. Mine arrives in about two weeks and won't be Any fun to shoot, therefore will use as a book end.
Last year we toured the "Band of Brothers" fox holes outside Bastogne, Belgium, and Garands used by our troops in WW2/Korea can not 'hold a candle' to the character and power of an AR-15.

I had a universal m1 carbine. I ended up trading it for a .50 muzzleloader and a taurus millennium. I was happy with the trade.

Just my $0.02, but there are TONS of high quality used autoloading shotguns out there that can be picked up quite cheap, eliminating the need to sell any of yours. For example, I paid $160 for my Remington M11 12 ga that was in quite good condition. A couple hours in the shop, it's now a very handy and dead reliable HD auto. And when I say reliable, I mean it has run trap loads to magnum slugs and everything in between without a hiccup in the probably 600 rounds I've put through it since picking it up in may.

Unless she's dead set on the Saiga, I'd seriously consider those options. That, and I've learned that sometimes women shoot a gun and go gaga over it, but once you run with that and buy them the same model, the enthusiasm wanes quickly.

I wouldn't want to sell any of those fore the shotgun you mentioned.

I would however, prefer to keep the wife shooting and happy.

If the little lady wants a saiga, well then get her one. I can think of a million other things that I would want more...but we want what we want. You can show her some options, but if she wants the saiga...sell that sks and get her a saiga.

I'd prefer to save and buy it. I can also understand that you gotta do what you gotta do to keep the mrs shooting and happy.

Sell the Universal. Forget the Mossberg. If your wife is smart enough to move beyond tube-fed shotguns, allow her to. Reliable and inexpensive 8-10 round magazines are in final testing stages now.

Polls only tell you what is most common, not what is best, and the Saiga is on the front-end of fighting shotgun technology. A hundred years ago, many people balked at automatic pistols. Besdies, the Saiga only costs $100 more than the Mossberg.

Don't sell any, find another source for the funds. I wouldn't want to part with anything on the list.

FWIW, I have shot several Saiga-12s, running the gamut from factory stock to mildly converted to fully converted, and I am not all that impressed with the design. The bolt head setup is really screwy, and standard plastic hulled shotgun shells will distort over time if left in the column type magazine. While I love the Saiga rifles, I view the shotgun as a novelty. Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for all the replys gonna keep the Garand and SKS, since I dont have ammo for M1 carbine more than likely will sell it.

An un-issued Russian SKS would be sweet.

I recently got an un-issued Yugo SKS and it is sweet. I still need to get the cosmoline off it.

The M1 Garand is a no trade (unless the right price).

To me the M1 Carbine just does not do it for me. The ammo is way too expensive as well.
