Ok guys here's the deal.

Comment on this thread by telling me which rifle you would choose. If you had to pick one rifle to take into a combat situation then which would it be?

The Rules

1) Must be semi auto
2) Must be chambered in 5.56
3) Must be civilian legal in the US
4) Can not be an AR
5) Can not be an AK
6) Can not be an M1
7) This rifle is being given to you. Cost is NOT an issue.
8) Tell me how you would have the rifle loaded out if you wish.

Thanks and looking forward to some interesting responses. Perhaps loading pics of the rifles would be fun as well.

-Marcos

P.S. Tell us why you've decided on whatever particular rifle you choose.

Same here, the 556. I'd take the SWAT model with an ACOG on a LaRue QR mount. Maybe a Magpul AFG and a SureFire.

I will take my American made AK into Zombie land ?

I would go with the FN SCAR.
It at least had a good look from SOCOM plus it uses AR mags for better or worse. If I were to hang anything on it I would start with an ACOG. Maybe add a surefire M2 and a FG and call it good.

I always love threads where the subject is something that will likely never actually happen to the original poster.

What I'm about to say is going to come across as snarky, but I'm honestly not sure how to say this in a nice way.

Look, if your justification for buying a rifle is because you want something to "take into combat" you should probably take stock of your life, assess what the odds of being in a combat situation with a rifle actually are*, and revise your reasons for owning a rifle accordingly.

*Unless you're in the military, extremely close to zero.

I have a rifle that I'm more than happy with. I'm just curious as to what people's answers would be without being given the option of picking the rifle that most already own. But...umm...thanks for the warning but I never said anything about buying a rifle. Just a survey for curiosity's sake.

I'll go with either the FN SCAR or the Bushmaster ACR. Aimpoint Comp M4 2 MOA red dot, with a Aimpoint 3X FTS magnifer on it, with a vertical grip.

Sorry, but your survey is flawed. If I'm doing what you suggest - going to the sound of guns with a rifle in hand - it WILL be an AR. Period.

Some people just like hypothetical discussions. In fact, there are a whole lot of people in academia that make their living off of them. I didn't see anything where the OP suggested this was a measure or related to what rifle he personally would buy. I think this was a just for fun and interesting discussion thread, which after reviewing the rules I see no issue with. If you are going to lower the boon on people it would behoove you to at least give a careful reading to their post.

In my apocalypse fantasy I brought my AK even though you said it was against the rules, I wait until everyone else's gun jams, and then I conquer the world.

It has never been the mission of THR to play fantasy or what if. If the question were to pertain to something that might actually happen then it would be a topic for S&T. But seeing as the topic is "What rifle would you use to go in to combat", which outside of the military has a near 0% chance of actually happening and oh by the way you can't use these rifles for some arbitrary reason, it has little to no bearing on the mission of THR. So while it may be fun to play fantasy, fantasy is not a THR mission. If there were some real planning and knowledge to be gained by playing along then sure. But playing pretend for the sake of playing pretend is not what THR exists for.

Combat was factored into the equation to stress reliability. Personally, I would think that if people thought they were taking their rifle into action instead of just taking it to the range then they'd take something like reliability a bit more seriously. Perhaps mentioning "combat" wasn't the ideal way to imply or stress that concept but do I seriously need to submit threads to THR's legal counsel before posting? This mess is not only hijacking a harmless thread, but will most likely get it closed when all that needed to be done was to answer the question...or not. That being said...I'll leave it alone from here to avoid being tagged as a troll. Haha

Here"s a few choices:

Deawoo K2

Rob Arms XCR

Rob Arms M96

MSAR STG 556

Any of the above should do. I personally have not handled or shot the above. I'm an AR Guy.
