Set-up:
Savage 10FP-LE2a (26-in/223 Rem/Choate stock)
Bushnell Elite 4200: 6x24-40
Mostly paper 100-300 yds - maybe the occassional varmint.

Which reticle will be of most use to me long-term..........and give me more options in the future??

Appreciate the learned opinions.

The Mil dot with be advantageous at longer ranges in that you wont have to make turret adjustments or use kentucky elevation. For the slight price increase I'd go with the mil-dot.

SJG26,

The only purpose of the mildot reticle is to roughly determine range and allow for holding off in wind at long range. Since your stated purpose is short range shooting, and you are limiting yourself to that purpose by your selection of cartridge and scope, save some money and get the Multi-X reticle.

I like a mil-dot

Perhaps because thats what I'm used to...but even for "shorter" shots (200-300 yrds.) It helps me gauge the range. Range estimation is an aquired skill, and practice helps alot, but its always nice to have some verification. IMHO, once you get past about 200 yrds., it's easy to make fairly large misjudgements of range, and when combined with larger bullet drop (over these longer ranges) a difference in range of 40-50 yards can make a difference...So, I kinda like the mildot to confirm my range estimates, assuming you have the time to use it.
