P226...in 9mm! It is a heck of a gun especially for a house/range gun (I routinely carry mine though). The full size grip and controllability allow me to keep my rounds in a 6" circle at 7yds as fast as I can pull the trigger. The P226 in .40 would probably be pretty good also, consider the stainless model which will add more heft especially since this isn't going to be a carry gun.

As for a polymer Sig, the 320 is the way to go over the 2022, but since that it what you want to get away from, stay with one of the classic Sigs.

I voted for the p229. I have the p229 elite and its been nothing but 100% reliable. Its uber accurate and feeds any ammo ive put it.
It grip fits my average size hands better than the 226.
You can go wrong with any of them, i just prefer the 229.
If your boared with poly pistols, chances are you will be board with the 2022.

+1. I've owned a 2022 and 226 navy. After buying the 226, it became apparent that 2022 would be sitting in the safe forever, never to be touched again. Don't get me wrong, it is a fantastic pistol, every bit as reliable and accurate as the 226. It just was not quite as enjoyable to shoot. It does carry better than the 226 by a pretty wide margin though, but I solved that conundrum by buying a Gen4 G23.

Now the 226 is sitting in the safe......

I voted for the P229 because it was specifically designed for the .40 S&W round and handles it quite nicely. If you were going 9mm, then I would have voted for the P226.

I had a 220 in the past and sold it like a moron. Now I want another SIG. Mostly I'm a 1911 guy but SIG's are the quintessential modern SD/mil/LE pistol. I prefer 1911's for the range and have several but never could get over how intuitive the controls are on a SIG P220 or P6. No safety to screw with when the chips are down. I hate safeties on SD pistols and probably one of the reasons Glocks are so popular.

I'm buying another 220 in a few days as a truck OC gun. I would go with a 229 if I wanted a 9 mm.

Thanks again for the input, been looking at the CPO guns, that is looking like an awesome deal. I went to my LGS the other night, they had p229r that I didnt want to give back. The 2022 felt thin in my hands. Again thanks for the help.

Bob, grips are an easy swap if ypu want fatter or thinner. I like Hogue grips that are extremely fat personally.
