Which Glock (17 or 21) to get

Thinking about getting a Glock 21 or a Glock 17. I like them both, but I can't decide. I have a DW 1911 and a Glock 19 (amongst others) for reference. Which is the "better" get if price is near equal? I'm thinking about plinking, hiking (until I get a 10mm or a .44), and possibly some carry.

That's a tough call, but I voted for the G21 since you already have a 9mm Glock. I know you also have a .45 ACP, but I voted for the 21 because there is more practical difference between the DW 1911 and the G21 then there is between the G17 and G19. By getting the 21, you will be covering more bases.

Also, I'd rather carry a .45 than a 9mm when hiking, if given a choice. I would rather carry a 10mm than a .45. Since you are planning to get a 10mm in the future, this is another reason to purchase the 21. You can easily convert a G21 to a G20, though I don't know how economical it is to purchase the parts for the conversion. I believe you have to get a new upper, barrel, and magazine, which can't be cheap.

If you want a .22 plinker for hiking, you can purchase an Advantage Arms conversion for your 21 (or the 19 or 17, for that matter). For about $225, you can have a high-quality .22 autoloader.

BamBam,

They both fit equally well. The problem is they both feel just fine, and I like the calibers of both. They are almost completely equal to me.

But Tony, what do I do if I like neither the BHP or anything in .40 and I do like Glocks? Should I get what you like anyway?

The 9mm Glocks are the best examples of the breed. And the 17 their King.

I know buying both sounds stupid and doesn't answer your question, but it's the best answer.

I own a 21 and find it to be the best .45 I've ever shot. It's accurate and has very little recoil for a .45. The only downside is the grip is a little large, but that's the price you pay for 14 rounds of .45.

My next purchase will be a 17 or a 34.

If your main use will be plinking, then get a Glock 34. Use your 19 for carry. There's no point in carrying a Glock 17 if you have the 19 as well.

So, I think it would come down to the 21 and 34.

I got the 21 first, but I'm getting the 34 next.
