I am looking at getting an XD for my first CCW. Do I go with the 3" or the 4" and the 9mm or the.40?

I have the 4 inch XD in .40 and the 3 inch Sub-Compact in 9mm. Each has it's strengths. I'm left handed and carry in an Uncle Mikes IWB holster and both guns are pretty easy to conceal. The shorter grip of the Sub-Compact makes it a little easier but it's not really that hard with either. When it comes to shooring them both guns have been utterly reliable and fairly easy to shoot. The cost of 9mm ammo is so cheap that I usually shoot it more but the Full size is little easier to shoot due to the longer grip and the longer sight radius. I would reccomend the Sub-compact overall if the gun is just for CCW but if it's a first or only gun I would reccomend the full size because you can conceal it under even an untucked polo shirt.

I carry a 4" XD quite a bit in a Blade-tech UCH, either tucked or untucked. It hides nicely so long as you wear a shirt that is a little loose.

9MM.
2 reasons.
So you can practice with it a lot more. (cheaper ammo)
So you don't develop a flinch like the .40's are prone to give a novice.

Azrael is HERE!!!:D

Which XD??

My personal favorite is the XD-9c...I love mine...

Xd9C=myyy preciousssssssssss:D

I would personally go for the 9mm 4" non-ported XD.

9mm for cheap ammo and I have as much faith in the best 9mm loads as I do in the best 40 loads, and the 4" feels more natural in my hand than the 3" version... just as I prefer the G23 to the G27 (though I've never shot a 3" 9mm XD)...
