Im looking at buying their 18" stainless SPR barrel in 223 Wylde chamber in 1-7".

Does anyone have any experience with this company? And why the Wylde chamber? Will 223 Wylde chamber 5.56 Lake City green tip NATO?

My gun currently has a 16" Wilson Combat 1-9" fluted Hbar in 5.56.

Do you think there would be any real benefit to swapping to the WOA barrel?

Only if you need to shoot bullets heavier than 69gr.

Noting special about that barrel. If the one you have is in good condition I'd save my money.

WOA makes great barrels, but I have never heard a complaint over Wilson Combat's either. Unless you just want the 18" or need a new barrel, keep what you have and spend the money you save on ammo. Yes, the Wylde chamber can shoot 5.56.

WOA is well known in the National Match Service Rifle (SR) niche of competition. It is considered to the best upper by many.

As far a swapping the barrel it depends on what your barrel is doing now. Many SR shooters change their barrels annually. They consider them to be only optimal for a 4K round count. After that the groups open up a little. You can get take-off barrels often for less than $100.

There are many good barrels out there. If I am not mistaken WOA gives you a choice of barrel manufacturer.

Do a search on "Wylde Chamber" I have read on them but don't remember everything.

You may consider a float tube if you don't already have one.

I bought 2 WOA barrels. They are both excellent shooters. WOA has great CS. I will buy more in the future...

Me and two of my friends all bought WOA 223 uppers for shooting prairie dogs. We bought extra long stainless barrels with muzzle brakes. They all three perform flawlessly and are very accurate. Out of a 5 shot 100 yard group, I can usually get 2-3 in one ragged hole.

Both me and my son shoot WOA service rifle uppers. As others have said, they produce top shelf products and have excellent customer service.

Wilson does make a good barrel, but the barrel you have sounds like a standard Hbar, not a match grade. The WOA will be match grade with a wilde chamber. You can get a similar barrel from other places, but WOA will have a better price, great CS and shoot great. If you want to shoot the 77gr bullets your current 1in9 won't do as well as a 1in7.

Good luck.

wilson makes good barrels for the money
but wilson combat is a completely different company that doesn't (to my knowledge) make riflebarrels

wylde is great and definitely my preferred chamber
the barrel will likely be more accurate than a regular chrome-lined military blaster, and not just because it is stainless. however, if you spend your free time doing mag dumps and bump-firing the stainless barrel, don't expect to turn around and shoot 1-hole groups from the bench

I have that exact barrel on my 3-gun rifle. It's very accurate and well worth the money. Mine shoots 55 grain bullets fairly well but I have to run pretty hot loads to get good accuracy. It really shines with 75 grain Hornady OTM's. I do very little bench shooting, but when I was working up a load with that bullet it was putting pretty much everything into one ragged hole at 100 yards. It did take a couple hundred rounds to break in and really start shooting well.

It's a little heavy, but IMO for a 3 gun rifle it balances well. I'm running an A2 stock which helps, and I prefer rifles to be a little muzzle heavy anyway.

I guess it depends on what you want to use it for. For a 3 gun or long range tack driver rifle it's a great choice. I liked the barrel so much that I'm buying a WOA 6.8 SPC barrel for my next rifle.

A simple explanation of the Wylde chamber:

The .223 Wylde chamber was designed as a match chambering for semi-automatic rifles. It will accomodate both .223 Rem and 5.56mm NATO ammunition. It is relieved in the case body to aid in extraction and features a shorter throat for improved accuracy.

Your current barrel, if it is a Wilson Combat, is already a match grade barrel, that's all W.C. sells. For $300 you could buy their 20" Super Sniper SS fluted match barrel but no intermediate lengths are available. Their site does not specify the twist.

Keep what you've got.

White Oak is top shelf. I have 2 WOP S/R uppers that have had no problems at all. I don't like problems because it costs me points. The only time I've had problems was when a WOP RRA tuned two stage went south on me. I put the spare WOA tuned RRA two stage trigger in and went on. One of the uppers has very high mileage. Both of these uppers have won me money and matches.

A buddy of mine who I sucked into High Power bought a WOA S/R upper with the Wilson Barrel.(7 to 1 twist) I've seen him put 5 rounds into one hole at a 100 yards shooting 55 gr Hornadays. This was with iron sights and my buddy is just a sharp shooter, not for much longer though. Both of my WOP's, one barrel (the older) is a Norpac 6 1/2 to 1 twist, the newer upper has a Kreiger with a 7 to 1 twist. Both love the 77 gr. SMK and both will shoot a 80 gr SMK out at 600 yards with no problems at all. The 6 1/2 will shoot 53 gr SMK's on reduced course's like a house of fire too. The Wylde chambers seem to shoot everything well. From my point of view, Wylde chambers are going to the thing to have for match shooting.

I think John and Mike just might have things figured out.
