My remington M510 has some ugly specks of paint on it. Whats something that can be used without harming the metal/stock, its oil based already scrubbing.

Try some acetone on a rag for the metal. Not too sure about the stock. If it's a polyurathane finish, I'd try OOOO steel wool.

Depending on the paint hopes #9 will pull paint right off the metal, not sure about what to use for the shock tho.

NO HARSH CHEMICALS, NO acetone, or any of that other garbage.

Use turpentine, it is a evaporative solvent oil made from pine trees and it won't "EAT" your stock

I just refinished a dresser that had been spattered with paint and it came out like new.

Turpentine + 0000 steel wool and soft rags and go lightly.

If you want to go real safe start with olive oil and 0000 steel wool, the olive oil might soften the paint depending on type.
