I couldn't post the pic and without it my post made no sense. I tried to delete it but couldn't do that either.
I hunted kind of a depressed area where the landowner really wanted the meat.
They said that there were basically no bucks on the property and to please take a doe. I really didn't want to do that but no one else was getting the opportunity and the muzzleloader season is only a week. Anyway, I ended up taking a button buck at 35-40yds with one shoulder shot. 490 PRB over 60gr 777 he never even took a step. I still feel bad, its different when you're hunting for meat. They were just as happy with a young tender deer.

Feel bad?! Why? You helped a family out with some meat. Seems a good thing to me.

I shot a button buck a few years ago; last day of modern gun season, no deer all season and this (doe) walks in just before dark. It was the best venison I've had, the backstrap was like filet mignon, my wife, who won't eat venison still doesn't believe it was venison.

No shame in providing meat for those in need! Well done, and with "old school" technology, too!

There are 3 reasons for hunting, in my opinion; in order of validity:

1) to put needed food on the table
2) game and habitat management
3) both of the above

I have no idea what the herd and habitat conditions are where you were hunting so I can't comment on harvesting an antlerless deer, but reason No. 1 trumps that anyhow.

That's the 3 E's

Easy to pack out of the woods

Easy to clean

Easy to cut with a fork
