Maryland...A Brady Bill Top 5 State /puke
Basically sell me your state. Why should I move there?

I had a dream last night lol and in it I moved. I'm pretty sure it was to Vermont...dunno why I'm pretty sure of that but I am.

I'm searching for a town that is smallish and relaxed with a short drive to a community college that is reputable (put the name I'll do the research, but provide any anecdotes you have). I don't have any "real" job skills save for that as a waiter...been doing it along time, still don't hate it too much. But I plan on surviving off of student loans and not having much in the way of bills. Low cost of living wouldn't be too bad either.

So what do you think of your state? Is it scenic? What are the bad parts? What are the good parts? Any college towns built around smallish and decent schools? (Gun Related parts) What's the hunting like? What are the hunting regs like? Is it as accepting and welcoming of the pro-gun culture as it's been portrayed?

I am not a Vermont resident but vacation there every year.
Morrisville would be my choice. The natives are gun friendly and gun wise.
You're only a few miles away from Montpelier the capital and Burlington and the U. of Vermont.
There are no bad parts, the hunting regs are fine and you get to strap on your firearm open or concealed with no paperwork and no questions as long as you're not a felon or mentally issued.
I love Vermont and recommend it to anyone. The weather is a large factor, but for gun rights to me ,its number one in this here U.S.
Vermonts natives can add a LOT more.

Community College of Vermont is the only true community college that I know of. http://www.ccv.edu/

There are lots of small colleges around where I'm sure you could attend part time. Castleton state and Lyndon state college come to mind.

Williston is a small town, relaxed, somewhat suburban, 10 minute drive from Burlington, 15 minute drive from Chittenden County Fish and Game Club (25-200 yard range, $30 per year dues). There is also a place to shoot trap and 5 stand in Williston http://www.shootncsc.com/ There are a couple of good gun shops there (Powderhorn, and BJs). There is a Wal-Mart/Home Depot/Dicks and all that junk in Williston. I don't know about the cost of living though.

It's not the most gun-friendly part of the state. There are a lot of flatlanders there, but the people there who are gun-friendly stick up for the RKBA.

Burlington itself isn't bad either. There are lots of hippies here (which I don't mind as long as they leave the second amendment alone). It is a younger town than Williston. There are lots of college students, which is nice if you are looking for a party but if you are like me, living near UVM can be a nuisance. If you choose Burlington, I would recommend living in the Old North End. The rent is lower than other parts of the city and there are fewer college students drunkenly yelling obscenities in the middle of the night. There are a lot of wannabe gangsters (white and black) in the Old North End, but they are all talk and there is not a street in the city that I would not feel perfectly safe walking down in the middle of the night. A lot of people will badmouth the Old North End, but it is a great place to live. There are lots of poor people here, but obviously just like with anyone else, if you don't judge them by appearance and treat them with respect, you'll get it in return. I'd rather live here than any other part of the city.

To be honest, I'm mostly familiar with the area around Burlington and despite my username, lots of Vermonter's would say that means I'm not a real Vermonter. The can bite me. I'm still pround to be a fifth generation Vermonter. This state has a history to be proud of.

Others can probably tell you more about some of the small towns in other parts of the state.

I live in Townshend, VT a small town in the south east corner. Grew up here, moved away and then came back. As far as gun laws... you'll be hard pressed to find a better state. I have my complaints about living here, but it's mostly weather related (I hate cold & snow). Outside of that it's a great place to live, it's quiet, lots of good hunting, relaxed gun laws....etc. The job market here is suffering a little, we depend on tourism in the form of skiers and leaf peepers and I'm sure it's going to be a slow year for that. Rent prices aren't terrible if your in a larger town but when you get into the more rural area's it can get expensive because there just aren't many rental apt & houses. If your considering buying, real estate prices here haven't fallen as much as they have nationwide but it's starting to happen, Taxes vary by town but usually are on the high side compared to nationwide.

As far as community college, there is CCV. Here is a list of locations.

I live near morrisville. VT is the best. But you need to take realistic stock of want you want in a place to live. If you need all the usual materialistic garbage that the media tells you you need every day (malls, "raging" nightlife, starbucks and mcdonalds on every corner) then you wont be happy here. Also, you have to REALLY like winter. winter is long and dark. If you dont like skiing, snowmachines, hunting, or snowshoeing than you should just visit in the summer. Also, if you are single you better live in Burlington or get ready to "settle".
Gun laws are the best. Keep in mind one of the few gun laws we have is that long guns must be unloaded (mags included) in vehicles.
Cost of living is not really cheap. rents are high for a rural area, food is expensive, utilities most expensive in USA.
Hope you like it!

Bradford

on the eastern side, about half way between White River Junction and St. Johnsbury is very nice. We have a nice decrepit old (1790) farm house there with fabulous views. If you check it out, go to Farmway. NH has no sales tax, so across the river for big purchases.
Good luck.
