Who can engrave US Property markings on a pistol? Need recommendations.

I want to build a Kimber 1911 Det-1 MeuSoc Clone and need an engraver who can engrave US property Markings like they appear on Government 1911s/1911A1s. I checked with Orion Arms but they said they can't engrave that small.

Thanks in Advance!

Bill Adair did a regular business replacing the USP on real USGI that had been filed. He did it by engraving but smoothly enough that it looked like the factory stamp unless examined under magnification. Unfortunately he passed away a few months ago and I do not know a refinisher - restorer to replace him.

I wonder at the OP's application for a gun so closely reproducing a military weapon that has not been sold surplus.

And I would hope it is not done so well that it becomes a counterfeit high-dollar collector at some point in time!

He's just wanting a pistol that looks like the MEU-SOC issued version similar to what Dave Berryhill was offering.

The second version of the MEU pistol is made by Kimber under a contract, and I've never been able to tell if it has "U.S. Property" markings as did the first batch of MEU pistols that were built by Marine Corps armorers on 1911a1 frames which, of course, did have the marking.

Ford's does list a marking replacement service at, I think it was, $25. per character. If that's still true the requested marking would cost $300. (periods are characters too) not to include any refinishing cost.

I hadn't heard that Bill Adair had passed. A real artisan/craftman of a type and style that we don't often find anymore.

I think Caspian can duplicate markings as requested on their slide/frame sets. Not sure how authentic they'd look as I'm pretty sure they use laser etching to do it.
