Who can relate to the "Bob"?

The old man shot a 257 about the last 15 years he hunted. 100 grain Hornady interlock over 4350 for ( IMR, H and Accurate) . Depending on the brand of powder the speed was 2950 to 3050 fps. As all were below max I loaded whatever was on hand and let it run. All three brands of 4350 hit within an inch of each other at 200 yards. He shot 25 to 30 deer with that load before he hung up his guns do to failing eyesight. The wife and I run the same bullet out of our 250 Savage at 2850. No deer has ever walked away. I can relate to the 257 Roberts. Not to any cartridge called Bob. Also I load bullets in my guns. Have no idea what a boolit is. Sad part is some people actually think that is the correct spelling if the bullets are cast.

Always wanted a 257 Roberts, a 300 H&H, a 35 Remington chambered in a Savage 99 and lately I've been thinking a CZ in a 17 Hornet would be fun, but I've never wanted a "Bob".. It's like calling the memory of my well respected best friend and Father, "Dad", not going to happen.

I dunno - it makes it easy to tell them apart. There’s Fat Bob, and Old Bob, and Chassis Bob, and Skinny Bob, and...

As far as shortening names I only use one that I can think of. H&K.

It's not the shortening of the name that bothers some of us; it's substituting the real name of a firearm brand or type for something sounding cute and chic that a hipster might use in rap "music". Not a big deal for me, only mildly annoying.

I'm thinking about the bob, but would only do it in a longish short action, maybe like the Savage. If its going in a long action, then Im just shooting the 25-06

My Granddad bought me a sporterized '93 Spanish Mauser with heavy barrel chambered and a beautiful stock in 257 Roberts as my first hunting rifle. I killed a piebald doe with it when I was in high school but have shot minimally. The gunsmith who built it appears to have done enough grinding and drilling on the receiver that I haven't shot it in years and years out of safety concerns. I've wondered from time to time what it would do shooting on a range but I've not bothered to have it evaluated by a trustworthy smith.

I mainly used the Roberts as a varmint cartridge using 75gr. bullets. It was no slouch. One of my favorite rifles 257 is an especially accurate Number One B. That's the only factory rifle. The others are plain jane built up rifles. The Roberts is a round for the guy who likes the caliber and has nothing to prove. So what the 6.3 mm Wombat Improved will run all over it. The Robert's is for handloading. Yes, the round has a cult following. That following is usually people that have used this caliber in the field. This does not mean reading a gun rags in the bathroom. Many get field use and the bathroom confused.

I've got one .257 Roberts rifle. Ruger 77 tang safety, red pad. I like the rifle but have never called it a "Bob". Also never called a shotgun a "shotty". Never called a handgun a "heater", Etc., etc.

I have called a revolver a "wheel gun" though. :feet:
