Who Doesn't Have Nearby Ranges w/ Gun Rentals?

Hello all, thought I'd put my first post here. 
There are a few close ranges by my home, and yes they rent. But...but....when's the last time they cleaned any of those rentals? Well, then you get your answer as for what types of guns they are generally allowing the public to handle. Basically robust, "dirty-able" guns that will shoot when not cleaned for a long time. So...you get Glocks and Rugers and your assorted MI grade 1911s. The flip side is that you can't really say that a jam or malfunction is caused by the gun or by the gunk left over from 40 earlier patrons shooting a several hundred rounds through it.
The other consideration for rentals is the lack of ability to own (i.e. visiting foreign nationals that wish to partake of some Americanized freedoms lacking in their home states) and the semi-interested newbie to shooting. In sunny California, you might make a lot more money renting than you can selling since legally a gun owner can't buy another gun for 30 days after his or her last purchase.
On a side note, the one rule that I find interesting at my local range is that you need two or more people to rent. There have been cases of "rental" suicide where a particular individual doesn't even want to buy his own to make his last goodbye. I guess with two, it's less likely you came there to put one between your eyes.

Wow...I didn't realize how lucky I am. There is a range just up the road from my place of work, (less than 5 minutes.) They have a wide range of rentals -- semi-autos, revolver and rifles in various calibers.

Not on my island!
I live on Kodiak Island in Alaska. Anywhere is a nearby shooting range up here! But we do not have any gun rentals available to us.

Got one about 15 minutes from my house that rents just about every handgun you could want to handle.

Here's an idea: What about starting one?
Contact your local NRA and see if they can open one up in your area. Nothing like a nice donation to make it happen.
I'm very grateful for the ones in my local area. Indoor range 15 minutes away and outdoor range just 30 minutes away.
The indoor one has a lot of gun rental selections (always have a new gun every 3-4 months it seems) and they keep a tight ship which I like...it weeds out the thugs.

There'
s a range about 70 mi. away that has a couple well used rental guns, but it's an extremely limited selection. The only ranges nearby are outdoor Forestry service ranges.

About an hour to an hour and a half away - that's two to three hours a trip just travelling. NO WAY!

No rentals at my local range because it is unsupervised, outdoors, numerous rifle and pistol staging areas and for $30 a year I get a combination to the gate and they email me when they change the combination.

We have one but they are a rip off. $20/hr plus rental and ammo.(thier ammo)

Nope, not any here that I'm aware of. If we want to try a new gun we just ask around. Someone's apt to have what you want and are usually good enough to go out and shoot it with you.

Well, I figure Maine Bear lives in the same county as me so he already covered it.
There are only a couple official ranges within an hour that I'm aware of. No rentals near-by. If there's something you want to try you have to find someone to lend a hand. There are some friendly neighborhood enthusiasts who are happy to let you shoot their investments though.
It sure would be nice to be able to drive 30 minutes and have an up-to-date selection of firearms to try out to help aid in your purchases however.
I still have not purchased my first firearm as a result. Shot a few though.

There are hardly any ranges in the NE PA let alone a range that rents guns.

Have my own range in my back yard too. And I don't rent my guns...EVER

When I go to the range, often as not I strike up a conversation with the guy in the next booth. We often end up trying each other's pistols.
Last Sunday, I got to shoot a very nice Beretta 92 and a Rock River 1911.
He got to shoot three four of mine, including my Springfield EMP. That might turn out to be a pricey experience for him, as he now wants one.

Supposed to be one within 30 minutes of me, I have no idea if there still is.
I've not been in the gun store that has this range in years and have never, will never, recommend anyone use that indoor range.

I guess I'm lucky in that I have two places within a 30- or 40-minute drive from me that rent; but I've never been to them. My local range is a rural Walton League, fairly limited in number of lanes, distances, etc. though with the bonus that usually no one else is there.
When other people ARE there, though, they tend to be very generous and allow you to take a few shots (or more) through their guns. I've had enough tryout success that way - friendly strangers at the range - to not worry about renting at one of the other, more urban ranges.
