Although I have, this post needled me enough that I went and drafted more than the standard form letter and sent it. I sent similar copies to both senators, with slightly stronger emphasis on the 'not voting for you part' for the dem. Thought I'd share if anyone was at a loss for words:
Honorable Pat Toomey,
I understand with the recent violent events that took place at an elementary school in Connecticut, and pressure from your peers, that you might be considering voting in favor of a gun control bill such as a bill rumored to authored by California Senator Dianne Feinstein.
Don't even think about it. I'm holding you to Article 1, Section 21 of Pennsylvania's Constitution, "The right of the people to keep and bear arms in defense of themselves and the state shall not be questioned."
Let me remind you that both the Sandy Hook shooting and the Colorado movie theater shooting occurred in buildings that banned firearm possession. In fact, nearly every massacre that I've heard of have occurred in areas where business owners or law prohibited weapons. Look back to the attempted massacre in 1997 at Pearl High School in Pearl, Mississippi. That wasn't well publicized because it was stopped by an armed Principal, before police arrived. Contrast that with the recent incident in Sandy Hook, Connecticut, which took place in a "gun free" zone.
If you still don't believe me, look back to the Virginia Tech massacre a few years ago and contrast it with the attempted massacre at the Appalachian School of Law in Grundy. The incident at the Appalachian School of Law was stopped by armed students.
As your constituent and a voter, I am asking you to vehemently oppose any and all gun control legislation that is presented to you. If you do this, I'll continue to vote for you.
However if you vote in favor or gun control, I will vote against you. I will also continue to keep all of the voters I have regular contact with informed of your votes, one way or the other.
Respectfully,
