Who has ever been called for a poll?

I was discussing this with some coworkers today. We see these poll results listed all the time about every subject on Earth (including gun control) - yet none of us have been polled, and we don't know anyone else who has been polled. Who the heck IS being polled? Have they talked to you?
 
I received a "poll" call a few weeks back. It was supposed to last a few minutes, or so the lady on the phone said. The first question was who I was going to vote for. When I said GW, she hung up. :rolleyes:
 
I am 35 years old an have voted in every election since I was 18.

I have yet to be called for a poll.

That's a good thing, in my book. :)
 
I've probably been called 3-5 times for polls in the last few weeks. I always say, "I think I'll pass on that," and hang up.

I don't know how many were real polls, and how many were push polls.
 
Well, I just turned 50 (man that sounds OLD), and have never been polled. Anyone that I've ever asked this question to, has never been polled, nor do they know of anyone whose ever been polled.

So what do these pollsters do, just keep calling the same numbers over and over?
 
I got a call a few weeks ago from a lady who said she was takign a poll on the OKlahoma Senate race.

Me: Are you affiliated with any political party? You know you'd have to tell me if you were.

(I don't know if that's true, but figured it would shake her up)

Poll Taker: hah hah....yes I guess I would.

(she's a big ol' liar, surprise surprise)

Me: Ok, shoot.

Poll Taker: Which if the following reasons do you think are the most valid reasons to vote against tom Coburn?

(Dr. Coburn is the Republican candidate for Senate here in OK. She goes on to list various out-of-context votes he made against everything for Meals on Wheels to Clean Air to cookies for kindergartners...you see, Tom Coburn is *against* Oklahoma, doncha know...)

Me: taken out of context, I don't think any of those are good reasons to vote against Coburn.

Poll Taker: well, ok, I'll just mark you down as "other".

***? So now, theres a poll out there that implies 50% of those polled are voting against Coburn for reason A, 25% for reason B, and 25% "other"???

Good grief...
 
Mons, that was a "push poll." They didn't actually want your opinion, they were trying to poison you ("push" dirt to you) against Dr. Coburn.

And, yep, she's definitely a big ol' liar.
 
A co-worker was polled on various political "hot-topics" and the election by CNN a couple of weeks ago.

Blew my theory that CNN only polled liberal leaning areas.
 
I was polled twice this time. Once was for a state house race. I don't think they liked my answers.

The second one they asked about the presidential race as well as the US house race.

I must have made someones list this year.
 
I've had three polls on state initiatives and they have all been well done polls.
I couldn't see any bias in the questions. I usually try to see how good the
poll is wriiten before spending much time with them. I am always trying to see
if they are really asking for info or are just pushing an agenda.

I got polled back in '96. It was an exercise in frustration, as I was voting for Harry Browne, the Libertarian, and according to the guy recording the responses, there wasn't any way to record that response. (Not even an "other" catagory!)

He wound up recording me as undecided, while I screamed into the phone that it would be a lie.:cuss:

Naw, no bias built into that poll!
 
I have been polled on the phone and had pollsters come to my door.

All the polls had an agenda.

I had the one person come to my house. I looked out the side window and didn't know her, so I didn't bother to answer the door. She kept coming back every day for about a week. Finally I gave up and answered the door. She told me that somehow I was selected to take part in the poll and she couldn't do it without me. The one and only question was: Are you an hispanic male. I said, no.
The end. :confused:
 
Polled ?

Yes I've been polled!!!! Once by Gallup and once by Zogby!!! Plus a couple of others times by the more local media. All of the polls were pretty straight forward and complete. Was an interesting experiance.. I'm 54 year old and never been called for jury duty though. I can't figure out why not!!! :)
 
Was asked to participate in an "Exit Poll" yesterday after I voted. Politely told the lady running it that I could not participate.

Reason being that I would have changed my Race, Age, and Sex as a minimum without even going into who I would have said I voted for.

Always lie and mislead pollsters, It helps trivialize them!
 
I've been polled via the phone 4 times in the last 4 weeks. All seemed relatively even handed (l1 nonpartisan completely but only mentioned Kerry and Bush in the presidential race and 3 eft leaning but only slightly). I blew the curve by answering everything from a libertarian standpoint.
 
I was polled by phone twice this time, once after the third debate and once right after I voted early. The last poll wanted to know if I had voted already and who I voted for. Never in 47 years in CA did I get polled! :)
 
I used to get calls.

When they tell me it's a poll, I say "I'll be happy to answer any questions you have. My rate is $200 an hour, minimum billing 1 hour."

Those dolts can't understand that to get my knlwlege and expertise, they're going to have to pay for it!

The calls have decreased markedly. :D
 
I have, I was coming out of the men's room at work one morning and a girl that works in the wiring department caught my eye. While looking at her rear I walked into a steel pole. I get a sharp pain in my right temple every time I hear a ping.

Other than that, never been polled.

Two things: one I also enjoy being a single black 25 year old female (I'm not) and they are doing a pretty good job of trivializing themselves!

After fiasco number 2 (with number 1 in 2000), not sure you'll see exit polls in 2008
 
I used to get polled 4-6 times every election year. I think I was one of the few people in Baltimore that didn't hang up on them. Although I'm a Rep. I'm registered as a Dem. so I had some voice in the election. I must have really twisted their results.
 
Gallup's called me twice. Once was a few weeks ago re: student loans, the other was about a year ago re: my thoughts on Microsoft and Bill Gates. I'm 21 years old, by the way.

I've been called a number of times, but only participated in one. It was a lot longer than the predicted "few minutes", and it was a local poll, about the mayoral race. Based on questioning, I'd guess it was (as M1911Owner phrased it) a "push" poll. I think they were attempting to steer me to say my choice was bad. I can't argue with that, most choices for mayor were bad.

I was on a cordless phone with a headset, in the back yard changing the oil in my lawn mower, so I had time to chat about pointless issues.

Usually I thank the caller for calling, then hang up.
