when I see one I like in a retail store like Sportsman's Warehouse, I'll go ahead and order it directly from the manufacturer.
You're probably right, but I doubt many of the responders to this thread are worried about putting "brick and mortar retailers" out of business when they order knives online from places like Knives Ship Free, Blade HQ and Amazon. That sort of practice puts brick and mortar retailers out of business since they can't act as a showroom while someone else gets all the money.

Most likely so, but when you kill off the local retailer you loose the benefit of feeling whether the knife fits your hand, balances properly, or has the fit and finish you can see by eye and feel. Most folks under a certain age probably have never been in a retailer that had a good knife collection to learn from.
those knife stores that still exist are few and far between these days.
Blade HQ and Amazon. Ebay for out of production knives.

I realize hso's post isn't directed towards SteadyD,..but I've bought the good knives in my small collection from St Nick's Knives brick and mortar store.St Nick’s Knives
I'm somewhat the opposite of .308 Norma, I see a lot of knives on line that look good, but I go to St Nick's to see them in person. If I like it, I'll buy it there. I've lost count of the number of knives that looked good on line that I ended up not liking when I got to see them in person.Generally speaking, when I see one I like in a retail store like Sportsman's Warehouse, I'll go ahead and order it directly from the manufacturer.
SMKW as it's 20 mins from the house.
Which knives did you order?Since I started this thread, I have ordered three knives from Blade HQ.
They have been super fast. Always processing my order the same day, then quickly shipping ups.
