Who is your “go-to” knife retailer?

They're actually knife manufacturers, but I've bought knives online directly from both "Knives of Alaska" and "Tops Knives." Generally speaking, when I see one I like in a retail store like Sportsman's Warehouse, I'll go ahead and order it directly from the manufacturer. Sometimes it's a little cheaper buying it that way.

In person on a whim wherever I may be or second hand on sites like these.

I don’t frequent knife only sites so my options are random and limited.

I bought my Yojimbo 2 on here around 8 years ago now.

That sort of practice puts brick and mortar retailers out of business since they can't act as a showroom while someone else gets all the money.
You're probably right, but I doubt many of the responders to this thread are worried about putting "brick and mortar retailers" out of business when they order knives online from places like Knives Ship Free, Blade HQ and Amazon. ;)

Most likely so, but when you kill off the local retailer you loose the benefit of feeling whether the knife fits your hand, balances properly, or has the fit and finish you can see by eye and feel. Most folks under a certain age probably have never been in a retailer that had a good knife collection to learn from.

All very true but those knife stores that still exist are few and far between these days.
As a kid I remember visiting the one in Solvang, California, long ago. There also was a decent shop in Honolulu in the 70's at the Ala Moana shopping mall.

I was in SMKW a long time ago and honestly then I didn't much care for the store. I've been in AG's store maybe a half dozen times or so and can't remember leaving without a new knife.

Blade HQ and Amazon. Ebay for out of production knives.

I've purchased from Amazon. I'm not a knife collector so I just want utility. There are some good $100 knives out there. I don't care where they make them if they hold an edge and easy to maintain.

That's not how I roll with revolvers however. I need the brand and made in the US. Too many imports and knock offs.

St Nick’s Knives
I realize hso's post isn't directed towards SteadyD,..but I've bought the good knives in my small collection from St Nick's Knives brick and mortar store.

I know very little about knives and steels, but it's nice to have a good store nearby that you can see the knives in person.

I'm somewhat the opposite of .308 Norma, I see a lot of knives on line that look good, but I go to St Nick's to see them in person. If I like it, I'll buy it there. I've lost count of the number of knives that looked good on line that I ended up not liking when I got to see them in person.

SMKW, Knifecenter, and New Graham. The last knife I bought was at a physical store though.

As with others, can't say I have one "go-to" knife retailer.

In the past few years, I've bought from GPKnives, Knifejoy, SMKW, GiantMouse, and Amazon -- all have proven to be reliable. There may be an outlet or two with whom I've recently shopped that elude me at the moment. :)

I used to really like viiting the shop in Solvang, Ca. But they relocated so these days it's pretty much on line. Too bad, because they made a number of impulse buy sales to me. Looking at an image is one thing. But holding it in your hand is entirely different. And in my opinion a very strong incentivizer.
