I came across this on my desk, seems well made and has filework on the spine. The blade is stamped "USA" then "6254w" and under that "SS".

It LOOKS like a 6254 Case single blade Wharny Trapper but doesn't say Case anywhere on it.

For a minute I wondered if it was custom but surely they'd of stamped or etched their name in it?

And next to a 048 Case Trapper:

Any ideas?

I'll try searching for that. All I get now searching for "6254w" is Case references, but it's usually to 2 bladed Trappers. I keep thinking someone maybe made this as a custom and maybe I forgot about it since I got it in a trade? I don't know.

Having such an odd yet already used model number makes me think it's an imported and mis-interpretted (almost) knock-off.

Valkman,

You'll be amused to learn that at times Camillus made a lot of knives for a lot of companies and occasionally the blades got mixed up and "mutts" made it out to the public. Kinda cool.

Absolutely, Skoal and Klien to name a couple.

I now believe this is a Case. Usually Case will put the "marquee" image on the clip blade and other identifiers on the secondary blade on the multi blade folders. That's what threw me off. Now seeing that it has the Case numbers and looking up 2-blade folders and seeing one with a wharncliffe blade, I'm convinced. Notice where the nail-nick is on the blade.http://images.knifecenter.com/thumb/1500x1500/knifecenter/case/images/CA16059.jpg

Interesting info guys, thanks. It seems like a good well built knife, it just has no mark of who made it.
