Who makes a D.A./S.A. thinner and flatter than a P220?

Would be nice if it was of H.K. or Sig quality, but I'd even consider a Ruger or Taurus if they have something considerably thinner. I like .45, but willing to compromise on caliber so long as it's >/= 9mm. And while I'm not a fan of rails, manual safeties, gadget backstraps, I.L.'s, M.D.'s, and designs that have you grip the mag extension, those aren't dealbreakers either.

So anyone have a P99c and a P220 to compare? Wish Ruger made a compact version of their single stack .45, because that p345 is almost as thin as the G36 (which itself would be perfect for me if D.A./S.A). Otherwise I'll keep holding my breath for a P.P.S. with an A.S. trigger L.O.L.!

Thoughts?

When comparing my S&W 4563TSW, sans the idiotic "tactical" rail, alongside my brothers Sig 220, the 4563 was slightly thinner, IIRC.

I know it was slightly lighter, loaded, as well. Hope this helps! TJ

Check out Kahr's line of single stack pistols. I like their CW45... but the PM9 is a better size to carry and my eventual purchase one day.

thanks all for the suggestions

Hey B.S. the Kahrs are indeed some of the thinnest, flattest, and lightest out there, unfortunately I just never warmed up to their "D.A.O." striker fired triggers (in fact just sold my PM9 last week)!

Would love a S&W auto (I.E. the 4563TSW), but I.D.K. how much thinner it is than the P220 since they are fitting in the same holsters (per the S&W board). Maybe I need to look into the 9mm and/or .40sw versions of that model to see if they are not a bit thinner (am willing to downgrade calibers T.A.C.E.)! B.T.W. thanks T.J., I'm not a big fan of rails either. So how I.Y.O. does it compare it to your brothers 220 in other respects (I.E. trigger, ergonomics etc)?

S.T.I. LS940
Width .765” across steel, 1.06” across grips is pretty incredible. And I'm even willing to take a manual safety, just not if its use is "required" (I.E. for me it is on a S.A.), if that makes any sense... I know it doesn't to you 1911 guys!

Still hoping to hear from the Walther crowd who might have both a Sig P220 and a P99c/P99 or S.W. version in their collections (A.F.A.I.K. the compact is of identical width) to compare.

the kahr trigger isn't world-beating, but i can yank a pm9 out of my pocket and hit a silhouette twice at 7 yards in under a second with strong hand only. isn't that what's important? :) but as always, it's subjective how a gun feels in your hand. objectively - being very thin, lightweight, and going bang every time, the pm9 is a pretty good choice to try out.

my future bro-in-law has a p99, and it reminds me of our XD in terms of thickness.

Well, I like it better than the brothers Sig. It shoots as accurately, and has never malfunctioned to date (+3500 rounds). It does fit 220 leather, and mags are cheaper than the Sig mags. With the factory Delrin grips, it is thinner in the grips than the Sig. I'll try and see my brother this weekend, and get some measurements for you. Ergonomically, the 4563 handles better, for me, than the Sig, as I'm left handed.

I wanted a thin, light weight, good capacity, DA/SA 45, with a safety.

I originally lusted after, and purchased a Para 7.45 LDA. It shot like a laser, between malfunctions. If the LDA had been better manufactured, and had seen ANY QA/QC, I'd have stopped buying pistols  But alas, I sold it at a loss.

The HK USPF 45 is very nice, but hardly concealeable, even in its compact form. But it is a superb pistol.

The 4513TSW pre rail did not fit my hand, but is a fine pistol as well. The rail version would probably suit me, but I could not locate one locally.

The local police supply had the 4563TSW, lightly used, for $425 OTD. Another $60 spent at my gunsmith, getting a trigger job, NS, bobbed hammer, and removing the rail, and I have the perfect carry gun, for me.

The manual safety decocker enables me to carry it comfortably IWB, and in a Safariland OWB holster it is a joy to carry. Hardly know its there.

IF you have no aversion to 9mm, I strongly recommend the 3913. A light weight, perfectly sized, ultra reliable single stack. I carry mine when the clothing/social situation dictates, and it is a fine CCW pistol. Hope this helps! TJ

I've got the Springfield EMP which is fantastic, but that violates your safety rule. Too bad.

That helps alot, thanks T.J. The fact that your 4563TSW was worth the trouble of having the rail removed is a testament to how much you must like it. But if there is a .45 out there thats smoother handling than the P220, I don't WANT to know about it (N.M. actually I think I do L.O.L.)!

"The 3913’s grip is adorned with very thin, but decent looking plastic grips and is approximately one inch wide—quite svelte. The slide measures only .9 inches across, although that width is increased by the width of the slide-mounted safety lever."

Now just have to wade through all the different versions of it (I.E. the N.L., and "The Lady Smith" L.O.L., and the 908/908s). I.D.K. about the L.S. printed on the slide- I once wouldn't even consider a G.B. auction only because of a serial number that started with "F.A.G." (the seller made sure to put no less than 6 pics zooming in on that detail in the paperwork and gun itself to make sure the buyer was not in for any surprises L.O.L.)!

Hey TX1911, your E.M.P. sounds like a winner, thanks for sharing!

How about the Bersa Thunder Compact line?
Generally regarded as super value and the "best kept secret" which keeps quality high, and prices down, at least from what I've heard. Never handled one in person, but everybody who owns one rants and raves about how wonderful they are.
You can get it in 9mm or 40. SA/DA, and no rails or other BS.

my friend bought three bersas... two 380s and one CC version. they're easy to use, accurate, and reliable to shoot. at under $300 they're a good buy if they are what you are looking for.

what about that single stack para 1911 with the double action trigger? wasnt that called the ltd?

Sig lists the width of all pistols they offer

The P220 is listed at 1.4"
which btw is the same that CZ 75B is listed at.
Sig puts their version of the 1911 at 1.37"

The P226/229 is 1.50"

However the single stack and compact
P239 is single stack 9x19 or .40 S&W at 1.2"
some models are DAO

Sig Sauer Arms web site is well organized and
has a pic and spec/details for ALL models

I'd like to add that the CZ 75B grips - plastic checkered from the
factory have a palm swell in the middle of the panels toward the top they
have ambi thumb rest. The factory has replacement thin
flat Coco Bolo grip panels as an option. Those should take the CZ 75B
down to at least 1.3" and the grip is the widest part of the
gun since the slide resides inside the frame it's slim on top.

I got a CZ 75B about a month ago and it's had 400 rds of
FMJ and various JHP 100% reliable and Accurate. I like the DA
trigger and it's not as far a pull if the hammer is left at quarter
cock. Good SA trigger - more travel than a 1911 as well
as a bit of over travel, but what the heck for a $500 service pistol.

The SIG 220 is widest at the grips. If you install the new slim grips on it. It feels very much like a 1911. Yes the slide is a bit wider, but the pistol carries very well. I own both a 1911 and a 220. The 220 is lighter and very accurate. It gets carried more.

Hey B.J. I didn't even realize the p239 was so much thinner than the p220. I usually don't take manufacturers measurements as apples to apples comparison, because I.D.K. where they come from exactly (I.E. in reviews they'll sometimes say across "the thickest part" or "width of the slide" etc). So .2" in grips or slide, or both, I.D.K. maybe someone with both will chime.

And I take it the Bersas you guys are talking about are of the .380 variety? Because it's looking like even the B.T. 9 U.C. is 1.46" wide (but as stated bonus points for no B.S.)!

U.S.P.F.- my p220 is not a problem to carry, with cover. Just looking for something a little thinner and flatter as a tuckable option as I no longer own a "pocket pistol".

It's new (and therefore doesn't have a reputation either way), but the Walther PPS may interest you. Single stack, available in 9mm for now with .40 released sometime soon. From my own observations it seemed to be right at an inch wide. I wouldn't give up my current carry gun for it, but I'd love to own one nonetheless.

SInce I have a full size 1911 and a recently acquired CZ 75B 9x19 I've
taken to the DA/SA option and the 9x19 is cheaper for the range as
well as my minimum for a SD/HD round.

I have a S&W revo in each frame size ignoring the big X-frame so
I consider a platform for the .40 S&W but it seems a nice carry piece
in a smaller package would be higher on the list of Want One.

Yeah the P239 has a narrow profile
3.6 inch Bbl.
6.6 O.A.L.
9 rd mag cap. for the 9x19 or 7 for the .40 S&W

I'll need to find a dealer in SPokane probably or maybe the
SHarpshooters Range has one to rent THey advertise they
have 70 handguns to offer for range time.

I carry the p239 in .40. Its a nice thin option for.40. It's not tiny, but certainly slimmer than a p2000, or p229, p220. Has a good weight to it as well; handles the .40 round well.
