Who makes a high quality AR15 LPK?

Is there any difference between the different LPKs' out there? Any mfg. I should stay away from? Any good deals out there right now?

Seems like DPMS has a fair share of the market. Thanks.

I will say that model 1 kit seemed to have a few out of spec parts.

RRA, Stag, and DPMS are the most popular.

I've used two DPMS kits with no problems. My Stag lower presumably has a Stag/CMT kit in it. A friend just bought a Stag kit and had problems with the hammer. Stag sent a new one that was also fugazi and so he got a third hammer.

Stick with a name brand and you'll be fine. If you order from a large shop that carries spare parts, I'd order an takedown detent and spring, and buffer retainer and spring. They have a tendency to get launched during install and it sucks having to pay $4 shipping for a $1 part. Order extra gas rings for the bolt too, while you're at it.

Stag Arms is really good.

I would avoid Model 1 Sales, like stated above. They are lousy.

Because I put aftermarket triggers in my ARs, I've been using the White Oak Armament triggerless LPKs from ADCO.

Essential Arms is probably the least expensive. 99% of the lowers you encounter are essentially identical save for the rollmark. I have rifles built on Spikes and Stag lowers.

Anvil is a good deal if you want engraving.

I thought Colts used a different pivot pin size?

I don't think a Colt LPK will work in anyone else's lower will it?

Not sure why that sticks in my mind as something to watch for, it's been a while since I built anything with Colt parts.

i got my CMMG LPK from aim and it fit perfect on my spike's lower

I have used a few kits -- if you're on a budget, I prefer the DPMS, for an upgrade, I like Bushmaster

Best out of the box LPK IMO is RRA(standard).Stag comes in second.

I have used RRA, Stag, DPMS, CMMG, Bushmaster, High Standard, Eagle/Armalite and Olympic.

The heaviest/clunkiest of the group was a toss up between Bushmaster and Olympic.

Bushy was just tight and heavy. Prolly would have gotten better with time.

The Olympic was pure crap, they must get Model 1 rejects. Poor fit n finish. I could deal with the finish but the fit was horrible.


They all worked but RRA felt the best to me. One difference is the roll pins used for the bolt release and trigger guard were tapered making assembly a lot easier and it had the lightest pull (for an AR) YMMV
