I've been looking at a few butt cuff shotgun shell holders, the eagle inds. butt pack looks pretty cool but looks like it maybe bulky. I'm thinking somthing with a lower profile. Its going on a SXS and don't want to take away the quick handling of the gun. Just wondering what the opinions are in who makes the best shell holder?

There is no good butt cuff. You should always be prepared to shoot with either hand. A butt cuff places a bunch of rounds in your face if you are injured and have to shoot with your "off" hand.

Just my opinion. Others will think they are great, I do not. Your gun, your choice, but you really need to consider all possibilities. In my never to be humble opinion, it is just a bad idea.

I use a velcro rectangle with a 7 round shell holder with velcro backing. You can place it exactly where you want it, the size is minimal, and its easy to rip off or replace if you need.

I've done a bit of googling, haven't found anything that looked great. At least they're cheap so you won't be out much.

I can't imagine how you can be injured such that you have to switch which side you're shooting with but can still operate a pump gun.

I'm sure that if you were in a situation where you are wounded and have to switch to your weak side to shoot, you won't care if there are shells in your face. That won't stop you from neutralizing the threat. You probably wouldn't even notice. Just practice and you'll get used to it.

Check out Eagle Industries for a quality butt cuff.

Never had a problem with off hand shooting with the butt cuff, and if your arm is disabled to the degree you need to shoot with your other hand, you probably wont notice.

simplyrugged makes them for rifles, he could probably make one for a shotgun. Also google levergun leather. He has some really nice stuff on marlinowners.com
I have the one from simplyrugged and while it was originally for .270 it now resides on my 30-30. It loosened up a bit but works great now.

I picked up a model made by Blackhawk - I liked it because it had a folddown cover, that way your shells can't fall out.

The way it hooks on to the stock, it won't come loose.

A) he said it is going on a SxS

B) Learn how to run a pump gun one handed, its not ideal but very doable.

Depending on how much it changes your cheek weld it can change were rounds go. Distances might affect how much this matters, i.e. real close it might not make a difference at all.

Ultimately whether it is in the way will depend on the holder, the gun, exactly where it sits and the shooter in question and how he or she intends to run his or her weapon.

That said unless this is a defensive gun the OP may not be worried much about such things. Of course if it is not a defensive gun then no need to necessarily keep the ammo on the gun either.
