I was deciding if I should get a POF upper and some AR lower or an XCR. The XCR pretty much just has looks going for it I think. You can get a POF upper for I think $950 and complete lowers go pretty cheap. Anyway, cheaper than a bare bones XCR without rail covers or even irons. Plus in a SHTF situation you could find more parts for it.

Any owners here? If so would you mind giving a short review and/or pics?

The XCR has a few advantages you may have overlooked.

It is lighter, and not muzzle heavy the way a POF is.

There are fewer barrel lugs and they are larger (easier to clean even if you do not pull the barrel from the uppper).

It has a folding stock which may or not matter to you.

I own a POF. I have the P9X with a 16" free floated barrel with continuous fluting, 1:8 twist. The fit and finish are excellent, as is the performance. At this point, I've got over 5000 rounds through mine with nary a problem and I've shot everything from Wolf to Black Hills through it. As the previous poster mentioned, it is a bit nose heavy but I've never noticed it that much. All in all, I'm more than happy with my POF and recommend it without reservation. I'd post pics, but I'm on dial up right now and loading pics is a POA.

In military type use, that heavy nose will become even more pronounced, since the troops (at least infantry and scouts) have all sorts of additional equipment bolted to the rails-taclights, night aiming lasers, vertical grips, bipods, etc.

hmmm. So the POF is a little more complicated than the XCR. But it also seems cheaper and better for a SHTF situation. Even though you probably wont find other piston uppers, you can always find a normal AR upper and slap it on
