Who still makes new Hi Powers?

I know FN is Fabrique Nationale in Belgium, but who is FM?

Fabricaciones Militares in Argentina.

They did some interesting variations on the slide, substituting the traditional "browning step" of Hi Powers with more of a 1911 contour.

You could debate how much it's a Hi Power, but I think Arcus is still making their model 94, which is internally identical to a Hi Power but a bit uglied up on the outside.

I'm sure that's a fine firearm, but my interest in the Hi-Power is its classic styling.

On other threads it has been stated that FM no longer exports its Hi Power clone to the US. Have you seen the photos of Prince Harry in Afghanistan, wearing a Model III with lots of holster wear?

Highpowers

Everyone ought to have at least one. I have a nice one that was accurized by Cylinder and Slide and an old beat-up Buenos Aires 1961 Policia gun. I shot it today and it shoot pretty dang well.

I see CDNN has both the Charles Daly High Powers ($289) and a FN in .40 ($489) advertised in their last catalog. I'd have to run out to my car to see the prices as I don't have the print catalog with me.

SARCO is still advertising their FM "Detective" model High Powers although they say they are almost out. ($325!!)

I found my Israeli Kareen on GunBroker a couple of years ago for a very reasonable price. It sits next to a Kareen Mark II that I picked up after answering an ad in the local "Little Nickle" ads.

The Arcus 94 is a nice pistol, at a very reasonable price (external lines remind me of a Volvo sedan). There is also an Arcus 98, which is based on the Smith&Wesson lockwork, but takes the HP mags without a hiccup. Something to consider if you want to pick up a DA/SA variant for a very reasonable price.

If you can find an early "military" FM Hi-Power (with the spur hammer, and stepped slide), jump on the deal. Next best to a true Belgian (or Belgian-made Portugese-assembled) Hi-Power, and for a lot less than you will pay for a new(or used) one in a local gun shop. The early FM might be a battlefield pickup from the Falklands thing a few years back. My personal favorite is an FM frame with a FN slide, matched sear and hammer from Cylinder&Slide, Novak tritium sights, and extended safety.
