Who thinks this stuff up?

But it is tactical. And an entirely new design. Obviously somebody is buying them if they are asking $30. But I agree, looks useless.

What I can't believe is that the army STILL issues the D cell junk. I think I still have both of mine somewhere, in like new condition.

Consumer impulse is probably the worst thing to happen to this country lol.

And I'm guilty of it. I bought a $30 LED Mag-Lite because it looked neat lol.

Well...it does have a red secondary lens option, and it's got a magnetic base for those that have an iron headboard. It seems to be missing a Trojan dispenser/compartment and maybe a "viscous liquid resevoir/dispenser" to truly qualify for the Romeo edition though. It is the "Hard Case Tactical", which I'd guess would appeal to as many as would deter others. :uhoh:

Romeo Alpha Zulu

I'm sure you're all familiar with the "phonetic alphabet" used by the military and other dot-gov and international comms types.

I would give even money that the "Romeo" inspiration for this light's name is from some military or para-mil application.

Hey, my wild guess is as good as yours.

:D

EDIT to Add:
Hey, look what I found. They also have a Tango tactical light.

I love it when a wild guess comes together. :D

Gets better:
They also have a Bravo tactical light.

Well, I think I see a trend. See below for other possible flashlight names:

Considering the features-
o 47 lumen
o rugged
o multiple lenses

This isn't a terrible price. I would pay $17 for it.

I do like how that Bravo model can function temporarily with only one battery.

Yep...back when I drove a vehicle that required constant maintenance (changing points or whatever...I had a big block ford that necessitated carrying a spare set of points at all times), I would have paid $17 for the little magnetic bugger in a heartbeat...but LED flashlights weren't in existence ( or affordable at least) back when I needed one far more often.

Those L-shape flashlights are very useful for MOLLE-vest applications. Ive seen a lot of them used in Afghanistan.

Looks a lot like the light made by Pentagon before they went out of business. The Pentagon light had a small compass in the bottom where the filter was. The compass never worked on mine. I used sell them and they sold out frequently. Unfortunately I traded my last one to a friend a few years ago and I regret it. It is nice to see the same or same type of knife coming back on the market.

I was camping this past weekend and one of the guys had the old Pentagon light. A lot of us were asking where they could one or a similar light. There is a demand for them. There are a few other angle lights coming to the market. I have one arriving in a few days. I will post my thoughts and pictures when it arrives. Although UPS may need a boat to deliver it.

Wow. If I only had one, life would be fulfilled even to Bhudda's standard. ;)

"strykervet, remember what we used to do to army equip? Thats why they still issue the d cell flashlights. They are alot cheaper. "

True, true. But I think you mistook me. My arguement is that they do have better stuff, so why still issue the junk? Why not kill the contract?

Our unit issued Surefire lights and those were GREAT. Surefire sent us other stuff too, test mules that we got to keep if they didn't want back (very few companies want test stuff back from soldiers). They have the little helmet lights now, I think those are very handy. Wish they had 'em when I was in, but they came out when I was getting out. They still sent me the very expensive grip light they make and a couple of weapon lights and accessories. Yeah, they won me over.

I've also spent more on a light than $30. I've spent closer to $170. But it is way bright, adj., waterproof, shock proof, and it runs forever on two CR123's.

I have another $60 one cell Surefire light. Always in my pocket, and almost as bright as the big MagLites. My wife has a similar one in her bag that has two batteries.

Surefire, I think, is the only place that can justify the cost of their lights. Until they have serious competition, it is likely to stay that way. They make a light for every application it seems. The one thing that sucks is the IR filter --it basically blocks all light, even IR light.

This new $30 light might be more useful if it didn't use AA batteries.

I've seen the crooknecks used on Molle vests in service too, but they were much cheaper tiny copies of the issue light that they sell in the PX. They use a AA too I think. Most guys I knew at the time used those cheap little lights you could get at gas stations. One LED bulb with a watch batter. Clipped on the vest and took up almost no room.

For working on the Strykers, those guys got issued small Surefire lights too. Those things were almost indestructable. I don't like their prices, but then again I don't have to. I have almost all the flashlights I'll ever need, and I haven't been able to break or wear one of theirs out yet.

The little one cell I carry in my pocket has been through the wash I don't know how many times. Finish is almost totally gone, but it still works like it did when it was new. The quality is worth the price if you only have to buy one.

Conversely, I've broken AND worn out MagLites. A few of 'em.

I actually will put out a review of a light that I believe will be the new standard. And I have at least 4 Surefires, so I have some basis for comparison!

And no, it ain't cheap, but it should last the user the rest of his life, no matter what's thrown at it.

It- and a lot of other reviews will be out in about 2 months. But if anyone wants a contact for this light before then, PM me. ;)

Surefire makes some killer lights to be sure, but they have plenty of serious competition right now.

I actually EDC a little energizer light, 45 lumens, runs off of a single AA. I really, really like it. It is not particularly tactical or whatever, but it is small, handy and bright enough for the things I EDC a light for. Plus, it was 15 bucks.

Check out Streamlight. Local to Philadelphia area. They have a lot of really nice "tactical" ligths that run on alkiline batteries. Li-Ion lights are nice, but they are so expensive, and msost places don't carry them.

I wonder, at that high price, who is making all the money, IF the thing is made in China!

I have noticed things made in China used to be cheap but are now getting to be very expensive, for the same old junk!
