Why are Hi Powers considered 'cheap'?

Somebody mentioned Ingis, I think they meant Inglis. The Inglis Hi-Power was made in Toronto, Ontario during WW11 under license from FN. Because N.A. was not yet metric converted American Standard measurements were used. Parts are not all interchangeable. At the conclusion of the WW11 the tooling was sold to India where pistols I am told are still produced known as Indian Inglis which is a shame because the Inglis out of Canada was a first class pistol - I have a mint example. Canada made a bunch of them for the Chinese during the war and a ton of them for the other allies. The gun is still in service with the Canadian Army - I am told there are still a substantial of unissued pistols yet in stores. Our naval boarding parties now use Sigs and I have heard talk of replacing the Hi-Powers but I doubt soon given pistols are pretty low priority items for the battlefield and we have a large number of unissued Inglis Hi-Powers still in stores.

Take Care

Large stores of unissued Inglis Hi Powers in Canadian store houses? Sell them to US Importers! Let us get a deal on Inglis Hi Powers!

I've heard the same rumor -- that Canada still has crate upon crate of new, unissued Inglis Hi Powers. Heaven knows, if that is true, the guns will have a MUCH better home here, rather than being melted into slag by the antis in control in Canada. :(

I could always use a good, inexpensive, high quality service pistol. :D

John, I love all of the pics you post. You really ought to have a website dedicated to all of your great pistols. :)

rellascout, that is my "dream" Hi Power -- the Liberty Tree HP. The grips are made from one of the Liberty Trees... I can't think of a cooler theme for a limited edition gun.

Any gun that saves your life, not just once but twice, is beautiful and worth its weight in gold!

The Browning Hi-Power, making sure that Sistema1927 has remained alive since 1977.
