If you do almost any firearms search on Gunbroker, let's say "model 10 revolvers", you will get will get a cluster of results under the caliber filter of "Other .17".

I have noticed this for several years, even through several site upgrades. Why does this occur?

I can't believe its all fat fingering by sellers. On several of the listings, the caliber in the specifications text is ".38 Special", as one would expect, even though it still filters as "Other .17".

The funny thing is that NONE of the guns so filtered are actually in .17 caliber.

The search function on Gunbroker stinks. "Advanced Search" is somewhat better than the regular search , but still yields a lot of useless items.
I lack the technical skills the understand why it stinks , but it does.

In the end, it's all a sales tool.
