That poor girl will be scarred for life, but at least she has a life. Better she will be receiving counselling for surviving the attack and putting down that sick animal than for other mayhem he may have inflicted, or her family getting counselling because she is dead.

I'm old enough to remember when the voting age was 21. Everyone who thinks that since we lowered the voting age to 18 we've seen an overall improvement in the quality and competence of our elected officials, and of government in general, please raise his (or her) hand.
Funny to think that the time when we put a limit on firearms purchases (1968) was very close to the time when the voting age came down (1972 IIRC). We raised the age to have a firearm, and lowered the age to vote.

Personally, I have always thought that you should "have some skin in the game" in order to vote, i.e. pay taxes, own property, etc. That seems to be what the Founding Fathers envisaged.

Or, we pick the age where a particular political party thinks it can garner more votes.......... ;)

I would be happy at this time if you had to pass a test. If you can't name your state and US elected officials, pass a basic civics test, then no vote for you.

Personally I don’t have a dog in the fight.
I do think we need to decide what age a person is an adult, by that I mean if you’re old enough to vote then you should be old enough for all other legal activities. IMHO voting is our most important right. Therefore it requires a level of maturity to exercise this right responsibly.

Sadly the loons in Maryland who think 18 year olds aren’t mature enough to buy a beer, or 16 year old to drive have decided that 16 year old are mature enough to vote.

I find this nothing but partisan insanity for the reasons above.

So while I don’t care what we decide, In the case of Maryland, I don’t see them having it both ways. I’m sure they will scream 16 year olds should be able to exercise their 2nd Amendment Rights. They’ll claim they’re not mature enough to own a gun. Yet they’ll give them the right to pick our representatives to make our laws.

I guess this is a long way of saying if the voting age is 18 then 18 year olds should be able to own a gun. If we as a society disagree then change the age to 21 and make it that. Unfortunately I don’t see this resolved in a logical way. In fact I see the only actions occurring like what we’re seeing in Va where our rights are under attack and one more seat lost to the left and we’ll have CA style gun laws if Gov Ralph and our anti gun AG have their way

The right to vote at 16 is right out of Comrade Bernie Saunders handbook of how to win elections. Oh the young open minded ones......Oops, I meant gullible easily influenced minds.

I also remember when the legal drinking age was lowered to 18. How long did that last? Much of it had to do with most 18 year olds are still in high school and were easily persuaded to purchase for younger, prohibited classmates. Seems to me, it could be the same for firearms. Add to this that many of these shootings are done in High Schools by High School age shooters. As for lowering the age to 16 with parents present. Kinda the way it works now. Parents presently can legally buy a firearm for a child too young to purchase it themselves and then gift it to the child.

Only the good lord knows what hell that woman and her children lived in. The history of restraining orders against the victim. The fact the kids (the younger brother retrieved the firearm first) knew where a loaded firearm was and were prepared to use it,. may in fact be, because the mother had instructed them what to do in such an exact scenario. Now they all have to live with this and other ugly memories and try to lead a normal life. God help them.

At least they have a life to live.........the alternative wasn't really an option.

The interesting thing to me is that this woman chose to fornicate with a violent felon in the same house with her kids. Did she expect good things to come of that?

He threatened everyone with a gun and fired shots on August 4, and this lady was still shacking with him on August 8, the day of the shooting.

Seems like a lot of crime stories contain the phrase "mother's boyfriend."

Women's lib yea or nay, sadly there are still women who feel they are nothing without a man. (This is reinforced more in some social circles than others.) So they will stay with an abuser rather than be alone.

Unfortunately some places in the South used tests (typically asking much more sophisticated and complex questions than who are the current elected officials) to deny black citizens the right to vote. So if I'm not mistaken, that was outlawed.

Correct, but in this day and age, I seriously doubt that it would only apply to black folks. We have more than enough dumbed-down whites (even with college degrees) to keep it on an even keel. (unfortunately)
