Why Do some guys bad mouth the .30-30?

Guys, this thread is almost three years old! OP probably bought and sold a couple of .30-30s since his original post! In the same time frame, I got out of the "336 Club," and felt so bad about doing it, I hunted down another 336 Texan (straight stock) to replace it. Everyone oughta have at least one .30-30 lever action!

Haha I'm going to pay my respects for the 30-30 because of it's history and not give my opinion.

I started out my lever actions with a Winchester model 94 (1955 model) in 30-30. And just to keep it company I have an old Marlin 39a.

There are all kinds of new cartridges out there that can easily outdo the 30-30. But I've always been very satisfied with it. It's very heavily wooded here and my maximum shot for a deer is well under 40 yards. Just about perfect for a 30-30. Mild recoil, easily found, and affordable.
