You also have to consider the fact that gun-grabbers do not know much about firearms technology.
For example, how many times have you heard the joke "knife to a gunfight." To a gun-grabber, the "gun" is the most deadly weapon and scourge upon a country.
But think about this. I give a townie a .25 ACP Raven as defense against a 250 pound biker with an axe--that I have sharpened.

I doubt one gun-grabber in one hundred knows that some of the most accurate rifles in the world are Schutzen rifles from the end of the 19th century.

They fail to realize that a gun is merely and ordinary weapon, nothing magical or special about it.
During the Anti Japanese War, the Chinese Communist Resistance killed far more Jap imperialists with broadswords than with guns. In my grand-uncle's unit, many new recruits preferred taking just a broadsword and some grenades than a rifle or a machine gun.

I don't worry so much about an ax. They are large, difficult to conceal and have a legitimate sporting purpose. It's the hatchets that I worry about.
