My EMP was a great little gun that I just wasn't carrying. So I traded it for a brand new XDS, NIB, never fired, and cash, enough to buy a Benelli Nova tacticle with the ghost ring sights, and some doubble 00 buck .
It semed like a good idea seeing that I lacked a shotgun and had just picked up a shield in 40. So I went back to my favorite round, for carry, the 45, and a lighter weapon that carries just as well.
I thought it made the most sense, especially having 2 40's and no shotgun. I am done with the HD end of things now, with an AR, "HD shotgun" and 4 pistols that are from 9-45. sound like a well rounded collection for Home defense and a little target.
I wanted to get squared away prior to election time, as we don't know what if anything will come down the pike, and if there are riots, as mentioned in Ayoobs latest email from backwoods, a shotgun, or AR is the best gun for that job.
the email is under my post if you care to read Ayoobs thoughts and links to some experts thoughts on this.
You can find his live links on backwoods website, but it appears that some pro's in tactics feel we may get some rioting and civil disturbances if Obama loses.

Some folks seemed surprised to learn on this blog that there are rumbles of potential rioting following tomorrow’s election. Some, of course, aren’t surprised at all.
Highly respected police trainer Greg Ellifretz is aware of it. Read his take on possible post-election rioting, and the importance of preparation.
Sowell sees it as a real possibility too.
Jeffrey Kuhner explains where some of the concern is coming from, in the Washington Times, here.
Me? I’m hoping it’s just the Twitter equivalent of scumbags writing graffiti on the walls of society. But we all have to realize that it may be genuine “handwriting on the wall.”
We’ve had the discussion here before about why we shouldn’t ignore blips on the radar screen. My life, including forty years in the threat management field, has taught me that bad things are most likely to happen to those not prepared for them.
Vote wisely tomorrow. Stay safe. Hope along with me that rumors of post-election civil disturbance prove to be wrong…but be prepared in case they’re not.

Maybe after voting on Tues we should go out to the range and do some shooting(hopefully with family or friends)to celebrate the freedoms we still have left, instead of jumping at shadows. If Romney wins there is real possibility of disturbances, but I fear the predictions are overblown.I know the riots are no joke having seen firsthand, the mayhem unleashed in the ghetto during the Rodney King riots

I hope if Mitt goes to 1600 PA Ave. That someone comes up with a "National thank your lucky stars we got out of socialism" day. Haha.

Ayoob tells it how it is. I look forward in getting the new issues of backwoods. I was sort of skeptic of reading his piece the first time, but read it and he knows what he writes.

It's snowing here in rural Wisconsin. From my life experiences here, including almost 60 years of managing my own threats, I probably have a bigger risk of getting hurt/killed by going off the road on the way to the polls, than being attacked by angry mobs afterwards. No new guns for me, since I didn't wait for Ayoob's e-mail before I began preparing. Of course when I first started to prepare, there was no such thing as e-mails and nobody had heard of Ayoob.

Dare I say it, I have more faith in my neighbors than that.

Even as I consider the possibility, I rate about zero chance of the slacktivists on social media who talk a big game actually doing anything.

If the right wing predictions were right before Obama got elected we'd essentially be living in a gay version of the Soviet Union right now. If one looks at it objectively, i know that's taboo in today's political climate, there is no cause for alarm.

^ That's funny! :)

I'd say those that live in cities should be cautious. We should all be prepared, but if there's a riot in my area, it's more likely to be over a cock fight than this election.

Enjoy that Benelli. They make some great shotguns!

Doesn't matter if it's unrest due to election results or the Chicago Bears winning the Super Bowl: There are places you avoid going. It's a safety/probability thing.

Anybody who's been around this website for any length of time should have seen more than enough general information about self-protection during disturbed times. It's much less about the tools than it is about common sense and thinking ahead. Mindset, skill set, tool set: In that order.

Whatever medium-power (9mm Para, .357, .40 and .45ACP) handgun with which you can best hit a target and with which you are most familiar should be your choice, IMO. A minimum-length repeating shotgun, 20- or 12-gauge should suffice. A medium-power semi-auto rifle (.223, 7.62x39) would complete the tool set.

After that? Don't be paranoid; don't do stupid.

You needed a shotgun so I think you made the right call for yourself.

That's an interesting magazine you referenced. I don't think I've looked into it before.

When it comes to potential riots this is the part I most agree with. I don't anticipate any rioting or other problems as a result of this election. However I will be sure to carry out my usual safety practices which include checking my guns for readiness, being alert to possible danger, and feeding my German Shepherd so that he remembers who's side he's on. :D

On my way back from the polling place I saw two doe standing in my yard, A riot in my neighborhood would mean them and their brethren stampeding on the house;) and I’m confident I can repel that.

And its even legal to eat those rioters. ;)

1) I love Backwoods. 2) Not to worried about rioters in small-town Texas, but understand the deer stampede thing. 3) Nearly lost it at "eat those rioters". 4) A semi-auto Benelli is a whole lotta shotgun! 5) Still wondering: what the heck is a "gay version of the Soviet Union"?

Rainbow flag with a hammer and sickle on it?

I think if the folks put in serious hurt by this storm in NYC didn't riot, there's not likely to be any riots regardless of who wins whichever election.

I started preparing in the 60's Harlem race riots when they burned Harlem to the ground, so I am not using Ayoob as a guide, just worth a mention. You haven't lived till you drive through a riot where folks are shooting at you and setting fire to all the cars on the street.
Not everyone lives in the woods Buck, although It's a lot more civilized in Fl than uptown in the 60's, a riot can spring up anyplace. It's worth a mention.

I heard the phrase goes "Winner winner, chicken dinner..."

No, but most that can afford guns, ammo, a computer and the internet can make somewhat of a choice as to where they want to live. Choosing to live in an area where riots are prone is no different than any other lack of preparedness.

I started preparing in the 60's Harlem race riots when they burned Harlem to the ground, so I am not using Ayoob as a guide, just worth a mention.

Then why after 50 years, by your own words, did you wait till the last minute to finish, and why is the prediction made by Ayoob mentioned so many times in your post?

I wanted to get squared away prior to election time, as we don't know what if anything will come down the pike, and if there are riots, as mentioned in Ayoobs latest email from backwoods, a shotgun, or AR is the best gun for that job.

I also wonder why the premise is made that only in the case of Romney winning the election is there this great fear of mass riots? Is it because the lazy, laid back liberals are more prone to breaking laws, destroying private property and looting and pillaging than conservatives, even tho they own no firearms? What other legitimate reason could there be? Please enlighten me, I'd like to know. Does Master Ayoob refer to this or is he again just lookin to scare us all into taking his tactical defense courses? Seems folks waiting till the last minute better hurry down to the LGS and stand in line hoping to get somethin', anything, quick before it's all gone.......kinda like four years ago.

Buck,
You can dance around it or just come out and say it; the reason is race. We can see it for what it is or we can choose to lie to ourselves because it makes us feel all warm and fuzzy.

Buck I don't write history, I just quoted it, because you seem to feel I have waited for Mr ayoob to tell me there may be riots if Obama lost.
I just bought a shotgun because he said in his speech he would ban them, as did several other sites as mr ayoobs did. I wanted to stop procarstinating and get mine prior to some new law being passd that prohibits hi-cap and anything that holds multiple rounds, including shotguns.
History has taught us that caucasion people don't normally riot over political unrest, so there was no reason to assume they would start now.
And as far as me waiting, I did not add guns only bought some I had traded to get other calibers, "as though that's your business", I have the same amount that I had a year ago, and far less in my 60's than ever before. My AR would have done just fine in a home invasion incident, "which I have had". Living in cities is different than living in the country, I have had several incidents when I had to use a firearm to protect my life, not from a moose attack, but from 5 men with shotguns and pistols, "I have spoken on it before. And that was in 1979, and continued into the 90's when I moved to FL.
So you situation is far different than that of city dwellers who own businesses and handle cash. I have always been prepared for the worse because I lived through it. I merelly replaced a shotgun that I sold when I moved to FL ,thinking I probablly would never use or require it again, as we usually didn't use them for HD in NYC.
I don't think he is waiting for you to take his course, as I have no interest in taking it either.
Dogs and alarms work fine, and a shotgun is a plus, but a handgun will do fine if you can shoot, after 43 years of being a licensed carry owner "allowed to carry in 2 states, I think I know a little about this gun thing.
You are unlikelly to ever experience a riot from your locale, so it really dosen't affect you, but it seems like you just like to argue, normaly I wouldn't respond, but I am getting tired of people commenting on things that don't apply to them, if an article written by experts offends your sensitivity so much, address the people who wrote it.

History has taught us that caucasion people don't normally riot over political unrest,

You've got to be kidding. That statement is absurdly untrue and the implication, that non-whites are more prone to rioting, is extremely offensive.

Buck I don't write history, I just quoted it, because you seem to feel I have waited for Mr ayoob to tell me there may be riots if Obama lost.

You apparently don't read it, either.
