“But if you do well, you go on to 7th grade, and name calling no longer has the power it once did.

Mike”

No, it still gets used.
Being able to humiliate someone’s arguments and the person has a long history, and it often works.
I have watched my attorney use it at depositions to get a rise out of adversaries.
One even blew his case right then.

Read the petition response below for a good example of a perfectly polite argument that is carefully worded to make fun of someone.

The brady group seems to have given up using fingernails to dig their own grave and switched to a backhoe as of late. Keep up the good work guys/gals!

Posts: 713 Not to defend the Brady knucklehead, but this seems clearly to have been an attempt at humor. He wasn't seriously suggesting that he would shoot anyone or commit any act of violence.

Sort of like when someone jokes "I could tell you but then I'd have to kill you."

I wouldn't make anything of this comment because you could wind up looking foolish for trying to imply meaning to his statement that simply isn't there.

SaxonPig, Good post. I guess human nature dictates that when one is harmed through actions or words, one feels obligated to harm the offeder in revenge once given the opportunity. Most of the posters here are trying to extract some revenge for an obvious, non issue. (I also agree had the shoe been on the other foot....)

I know it was a joke. But, I'm a long time gun owner, instructor, carry concealed etc...and I don't joke like that. Offhand, i can't remember any gun-owning friends joking like that either in similar situations. My mom does joke like that, she's not an anti...but she's not a gun owner either.

The Brady types assume certain types of irresponsible behavior on the part of gun-owners, then call for bans based on those false assumptions. The assumption that an otherwise law-abiding citizen would/could just "shoot someone" over a petty disagreement or traffic issue if a gun is available is often central to their pleas for citizen disarmament. So, even the joke (made as if a gun owner would make it - ha, ha) implies this mistaken assumption.
