why no love for the anaconda?

Colt has had a bad habit of just missing the trend. They reintroduced the SAA too late for the first cowboy craze and then bumped the price for the second. They discontinued their small revolvers just as CCW was coming in. They introduced the Anaconda long after the "Dirty Harry" .44 Magnum boom. If there were a prize for the world's worst trend spotters, Colt would win hands down.

I don't know which was chicken and which was egg, but one reason the Anaconda never went anywhere is that Colt didn't advertise it or give it much publicity support. I don't think the Python mystique had anything to do with it, or the fact that it was not a "super shiny" gun. I think by the time it came out, Colt had already made the decision to virtually abandon the civilian gun business and concentrate on police and military contracts. So did Colt give up on it because there was little interest, or was there little interest because Colt gave up on it? Chicken or egg - which came first?

I like love my Smiths and I love my Colts and I do own a .45 LC Anaconda and really like it along with my King Cobra and Python.

Don't know why people who likes S&W bash Colts and vice versa. I won't trash either one.

I never wanted a Anaconda in 44 Mag or 45LC. I came close to buying one about a year ago at a show; then I decided I didn't want to spend the money on either caliber Anaconda. But, if Colt had offered the Anaconda in 41 mag, I'd probably have at least two by now.

Anaconda is a great gun. Very strong and accurate. Of course many will tell you about Colts being "fragile" which is dog squeeze but many are too tied to their favorite brand to allow the truth to bother them.

Of course the Smith model 29, an outstanding gun, has and deserves many fans. If you are going to shoot the gun a lot I would recommend the Smith as it is cheaper to purchase. While I do not like the way they handle, Ruger also makes "reasonably" priced (compared to the Colt) 44's that well serve their owners.

Like any product that is collectible (as they were not made in quantity, and are no longer produced) they command a premium. Some folks have sour grapes, others are more practical and prefer to stretch their dollars. Some folks are just "brandists". Look at Nascar where cartoon representations of their favorite brand drive around in circles and yet engender loyalty. People are strange.

So to answer the OP, there is a lot of love for Anacondas but due to shear numbers there are not as many as other guns
