I've read a LOT of posts on this forum and seen many pics . I don't remember ever seeing anything about the Ruger KP345PR - Ruger's only 45 acp pistol - and the only Ruger pistol you can legally buy in MA. . I have Ruger revolvers and think they are great guns and from what I've read on this forum many other people like them too . So what's wrong with the Ruger semi auto ???? I've been thinking of getting one for a long time but  Why no mention of them here ?

Correction

It's not the only Ruger .45 Auto. There is also the .45 P90. A very accuracte gun. Many would call it a Tackdriver. Also the KP345 thingy. I was real excited after G&A and other gunrags talked it up. But when I went to buy it, it just didn't fit my hand. For the record I like Ruger. Love the mini 14, I am still waiting on a Frontier. I own a 10/22 as well as a Blackhawk and others. But the new .45 feels the least ergonomic (read comfortable) of any ruger gun to date. I'm sorry but if they switch over to this design for all their guns, I won't be buying any new autos from them.

They've been a bit trouble some and certain feature some people don't like.
If you like the grip of a 1911 you love the grip on a p345.

What are the gun laws of Mass. that prevent you from owning other guns? Also ruger has the P97 which is a 45.

Ruger semi's are tough pistols and fairly accurate for their price point.

They are also brick like, or overengineered, depending on your perspective and the machining can be rough - typically not anyplace that counts mind you but not "artifact" quality.

My take is poorish ergonmics, good value from a price/reliability/accuracy standpoint.

fattsgalore - The gun laws in MA. are crazy . A handgun has to be " MA. approved " . I'm not sure what the gun manufacturers have to do to get there guns approved in MA. but there are many handguns you can't buy in MA. . For example , you can't buy a NEW Glock . In MA. you can only buy a used Glock . Another example , you can't buy a NEW Ruger 9 mil. in MA. . :banghead:

hrgrisso - I liked the way the gun felt , fit my hand perfectly .

I believe the P345 replaced the P97, though I could be wrong. Back when I was in the market for my first .45, I pondered getting the P345, but I'd read that Ruger was still working the bugs out of it, so I picked up the P90 instead. (Check out the Ruger Forum for more info.) Been real happy with my P90, too.

The P90 ans P89 are some of rugers best pistols hands down. Ugly and heavy though. I just might get a P90 if the price is right.

I read about the P345 and I was real exited about it. When I went to the gunstore to check it out and maybe buy one I discovered that it just diddnt fit my hand.

Have it, use it, love it.

I've got a kp345pr in stainless. I'm very satisfied. It did need a fluff and buff around the breach face and loading ramp to eliminate a random FTL problem, but since that it's been flawless. You'll read a lot about people sending them back for this problem, and messing with the magazines to correct it, but I found some sand paper and steel wool solved it.

The grip is a little small for my hand, so it gets uncomfortable after a few hours of shooting, but that's me, not the gun. Besides, it fits my wife's hands well and I got it primarily for her to use as a HD weapon.

Look into the engineering of the safeties on it, you'll likely be impressed. Just don't dry fire without a magazine inserted!

Low recoil, well-balanced, easy to clean, concealable, reliable, and safe. A+ in my book. Ruger should really be paying me for this.

Ahhhh the Massachusetts gun laws, I grew up there and was pretty active a few years ago with letter writing to manufactors and politicians.

Then I moved to Texas where, well you can buy whatever you want.

Anyways, I would highly recomend that you write letters to the manufactors that DONT sell MA approved guns. I kept writing Berretta and when they finally made a MA compliant gun, the president sent me a personal letter letting me know that MA guns were being made. Get your friends to too. Also check out www.fsguns.com good people, best prices in Woburn. later

The Ruger KP345 is a nice looking and good feeling gun but has had teething problems although some people have had no troubles at all.. I chose this P97 (discontinued now although some still available) over the 345 because I didn't care for the new safety features. As far as Rugers being heavy, at 31 to 33 ounces they are lighter that many .45s.

there are alot of threads on here about the pistol in question. as was pointed out the kp345 is not the only .45 by ruger. i think they are neat pistols but i believe there are better pistols out there, in the catagory. use the search function, and read about them.

I tried very hard to like my 345, but ended up selling it and buying an XD-45 tactical. I shot all kinds of ammo, commercial and my reloads through the Ruger and was never able to get a decent pattern. My shooting buddy also had problems with it too. IMO, it's a nice looking, decently built pistol, and I like the decocking double/single action construction. It felt good to me, shot anything I fed it, but just didn't perform for me. I'm very happy with the XD, although it won't handle the myriad of ammo I could feed through the Ruger.

I have a KP345DPR, same pistol, but decock only, probably not legal in your state, but still basicly the same gun. While early on there were problems with the P345 line, I know Ruger will do whatever it takes to make it right.

Mine was made in '06, and fuction is flawless. It will even feed empty cases. Accuracy is very good, recoil seems mild, and both the SA and DA trigger pull are good. The DA was a bit rough out of the box, but now, after a bit of use, is very good!

Some people hate the built-in gun lock, but you can use it or not, your choice. The loaded chamber indicater and the mag safety are both features I like. Many don't. The size and weight make it a very 'handy' gun.

I think it is one of the best buys out there, but that's just one guys opinion. I am very happy wth mine!

Haven't shot a 345, but the P90 .45 cal I've shot fit my hand dreadfully but, despite that, was really impressive in the accuracy department. Point of aim and impact were perfectly lined up for me at 7-10 meters.
