Since S&W had to create a different frame size to accommodate a .454 cartridge, it only makes sense that they would create one that takes their proprietary cartridge such as the .500 S&W mag and the .460 S&W mag. The fact that their .460 X-Frame also accommodates the .454 and .45 Colt is an added bonus to those that don't reload. For us that do reload it is really a moot point. Isn't really that much difference between the .454 and the .460, but IMHO, the former is much more pleasant to shoot outta a X-Frame than the SRHs. Because of this, the X-Frame has renewed interest in the .454 chambering. Especially for those that like to shoot them a lot.
