Notice on GB no one can get rid of them fast enough, and haven't seen a "straight" 4566 there in ages.
What's the beef; yeah, I know they're heavy, all steel guns and thus are out of fashion with everybody but me, and the 4566 and 4567 I used to own weren't the sharpest knives in the drawer, but what else is wrong with it?
I own several 4506's and 4516's I wouldn't part with. (And 2 CQBS'; shoulda been production guns).

The only reason I can think of, and I'm not sure whether it's true, is the rumor making its way around that S&W has (or soon will) discontinue parts support for the 3rd Gen pistols.

So maybe some of these 4566TSWs you see popping up on GunJoker are a result of their owners' concerns about that issue.

That said, I've got a plain-jane 4566 that was an inexpensive "police trade-in" gun I picked up some years ago. Be assured that it won't be getting sold off anytime soon even if S&W does discontinue making 3rd Gen parts and/or providing warranty repair service on these models. Same for my two 10XX-series pistols.

Back in the 1980s I was shooting a S&W 745 (single action only version of the 645) in USPSA. Parts and magazines were hard to find and outrageously expensive even back then. It was a good design but it didn't stick around very long. I sold it and got my first 1911. The 1911 has a much better grip angle compared to the S&W. Some guys get used to it but I never did.

I have a 4506 that I seldom shoot anymore. While I haven't searched very hard for them, mags are not readily available from my usual sources.

They suffer from lack of attention on gun forums, no fun owning a gun nobody talks about. ;)

FWIW I'm keeping my 4566 but I'm the odd duck who bucks the trend :)

IMHO 3rd Gen S&W autos are probably one of the best values on the used gun market. Similar to S&W revolvers around 10 to 15 years ago.

Probably why you tend to see them on Gunbroker. I picked up a like new 4006 a few years go on there. Great value. Magazines were ridiculously cheap. I bought a card box full of them, maybe 20, for like a $100.

FYI-If anyone is looking for magazines MidwayUSA has them right now for $28.47.

It weighs 2.6lbs, has a single stack magazine, parts are hard to find, and factory service is going to be an issue.
Don't know what it does that a 1911 can't do better.

* * * Don't know what it does that a 1911 can't do better.

First, a S&W 3rd Gen .45 - thankfully - doesn't look like every other 1911 out there, even though they shoot just as well as a 1911 (standard models, not tricked-out match guns).

Second, the Smith 45s were more consistently reliable out-of-the-box than most 1911s.

Third, while not claiming that it's a "better" feature, the 4506s/4566s did give their users the option of DA/SA.
