On Tuesday, the Assembly Homeland Security Committee voted 7:1 (with one absent member) to approve AB581 for a floor vote.

AB581 is Representative Scott Gunderson's bill to prevent the Wisconsin state government from doing Katrina-style gun confiscations.

The bill is scheduled for a floor vote in the assembly on Tuesday. Governor Doyle has not commented on the bill, so we don't know if he'll veto or not. If there is an overwhelming number of votes for the bill, he may likely sign it.

What happens in the assembly with this bill is critical. It's in the assembly where Doyle has been successful in twisting arms on concealed carry.

Please contact your state representative. If you don't know who your state rep is, call 1-800-362-9472.

of course it's been posted before, but a little refresher can't hurt:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-taU9d26wT4 (NRA: The Untold Story of Gun Confiscation After Katrina)

sad state of affairs when you actually need a law to protect your rights and ensure that your guns can't be taken away from you when you might need them most.

The bill passed the Assembly today by an 84 to 13 vote. Two legislators were not present.

With those numbers, things look good. I can't imagine any problems in the Senate, but you never know.

So far, I haven't read or heard a word from Doyle on this.

Congrats, keep up the good work.

Here in CA, we got our Katrina bill passed - but two other bad gun bills passed, because of our idiotic GOC screwing things up (and NRA gets the blame because everytime some gun poltiical screwup happens, NRA gets the blame regardless of who's the instigator).

Good luck and see if you can stoop WIGO/"Executive Director" from screwing things up. Apparently he's your equivalent of our GOC/Sam Paredes.

I will be surprised if this makes it to Doyle.
I will be even more surprised if it makes it past him.

Cyclist, what's going on with this bill is weird. I say that because the press hasn't even mentioned it, at least to my knowledge.

It was in the Assembly where we had a hard time getting votes for the CCW bill. 84 out of 99 votes for this bill is a good sign.

As for Doyle, he'd be commiting political suicide by vetoing this, as he would in effect be saying that he's willing to confiscate guns from law-abiding citizens. That won't fly here.
