Wild Hill

I went there; and have mixed views. Some canned hunts don't feel canned; not my experience there. i think they let the pigs out of a pen on the far side of the hill, and heard them towards you or something. That's not the end of the world, since in New England you can't get the real thing. However, i was looking to introduce some friends to hunting and thought that might be a good venue; so i made a reservation three or four months in advance for ten people. 10-14 days before, I called up to reconfirm, and was informed that since they hadn't heard from me(!) that they'd cancelled my reservation and their people wouldn't be there, so no hunt.

10 people=money for them, or so i thought, but they didn't want the business. I found that to be pretty poor service, since they had my phone, email and mailing address. So between the canned-ness and the reservation thing, I cannot recommend them. YMMV.

It's too bad since there's not many venues in the Northeast. There's a place i haven't been to called Hunt Battenkill I see ads for, as well as a place in Maine somewhere, Skinnerbog, IIRC.

Thanks DD

I'll be going up Friday and will look in on the operation. We are rescuing an old farmhouse in Bradford.

A hunter named "Doc" at Graybeard Outdoors site has taken a number of trophies at Wild Hill. Two of his fallow bucks are clearly SCI Book material.

I've never hunted at Wild Hill but have taken red stag at D & D Ranch in southern Ohio. The hunt was challenging and quite rewarding. Excellent food served, too.

This is my first post here.

I've bow hunted boar at Wild Hill. And am going back this October. It was canned hunt, but I thought they did a good job keeping it as natural as they could. I also bow hunted boar at Battenkill Preserve in NY state just across the boarder from Manchester, VT. This also was pretty good place. Again, canned, you saw the fence at times, but still all in all a good stalking hunt.

One reason I joined this site was to do some research on what sidearm to carry for backup as I bow hunt boar. And to also look into what handgun could handle that and double as a deer hunting handgun. This fall I am going to shoot my recurve bow only for all game. My last two preserve boar hunts I had both boar that I connected an arrow with charge me. Good thing my guide in one case had a rifle and downed the animal about 8 feet in front of us, and in the other case I stepped behind a tree and he ran right by, stopped, turned around, stared at me but didn't see any movement, turned and walked away. He fell over about 10 yards later.

Thanks all for the input.
Went by last Sat, but they weren't home and I thought I might get stuck in the drive.
I'll call them this week, if I do it, I'll post a review.
