Hi Y'All...

I haven't paid much attention to the wildcat cartridge scene for years and years so I was wondering if anyone has done any tinkering with .25 cal. bullets launched from necked down .308 brass - essentially a .25/08.

Anyone know of such a beast ?

Many thanks !
:)

The .25x.308 or .25-08 was originally known as the .25 Souper (Yes, spelled that way.) when it was designed in the 1950s with the .308 was new on the market.
Load data is in Ackley's book, Nick Harvey's Practical Reloading Manual, Any Shot You Want/A-Square, probably some others.

Shilen shows .257-68 which I suspect is a misprint for .257-08, otherwise you might have to buy a gunsmith a reamer. I read that CH-4d has dies.

Thanks Gents !

I figured the .250 Savage had to be pretty close in performance. And ditto the .257 Roberts (which was built on the 7x57 case).

I guess the long-action 25/06 is the only quarter-bore that will offer much over the .243.

Thanks again !

more to offer? I like the .257 Ackley Improved better in every way (as opposed to the .243Win)

YMMV

I think the 257 Roberts Ackley improved is pretty much the final word in efficiency in a 25 caliber.

But I am frequently wrong, so consult a reputable data source. ;)
