Wildcat question

Is a 300 Lapua Magnum a necked down .338 Lapua? If not has anyone ever done this? HAs anyone ever shot this one?


I ask this for 2 reasons. First, I finally got what I think is an accuracy load in my 300Win Mag pushing a 240 grn Sierra(BC .711) at ~2950 fps.(no pressure signs on this load yet) Will a Lapua wildcat push it appreciably faster?


Also a couple of the 1000 yd ranges down here disallow the 338 Lapua, along with the .50 cal down here.

I'm familiar with the 338 Lapua, my question was about the 300 Lapua. I've been trying to find info, but no luck so far. Any help in that direction will be appreciated.

Have you looked into a 30-378 wby magnum? It may another option that you may want to look into. http://www.weatherby.com/products/ammo.asp?prd_id=8

i dont think so, but im not 100 percent sure, think the 338 lapua is a bigger case.

I've considered boring out my chamber to a 300RUM, if that's possible, but I've heard mixed reviews on the RUM's accuracy.

Does the weatherby need a magnum length action?

Just thinking, not looking stuff up for you...
A .338 Lapua is a .416 Rigby necked down.
A .378 Weatherby is a .416 Rigby necked down and with belt and Weatherby round shoulder added.
So a .300 Lapua made as a .338 Lapua necked down would be very close in case capacity to a .30-.378 Wby. For which ballistics are in print.

These cartridges are all larger than an H&H magnum and I would sure want to talk to the gunsmith about what actions would hold one.
