I was wondering if anybody had any experience both positive and negative about this little pistol? I would greatly appreciate any comments. If anybody has pictures of the gun, I'd like to get some. I'm doing research and would like all the information I can get on it.

I happen to have a Auto Nine tucked away somewhere..Have not shot it in years..Will have to dig it out and take it to the range..

Took my auto nine to the range the other night..Had a few problems with it..First two rounds out of the mag would not cycle the action then the rest would go fine..Was using Federal bulk HP's from Walmart..These work in everything else..Will get something else and give it a try again..
By the way my gun is a plain blue with black plastic grips..

I see these in the gun annuals each year, but have never seen one in person. I would buy one because I like mouseguns. I emailed the company to ask if they were going to make more. I have a "Linda" carbine. When I bought that, in 2001, they didn't have any Sherrys for sale or I would have bought one then.

I think I have a fascination with small pistols ever since my Baby Browning was stolen in 1969. It had cost me $49.50. The insurance company gave me the entire amount, but when I hurried to Lock, Stock & Barrel gun shop near Columbus Ohio and asked to buy a replacement, all they had was a used one...FOR $249.00!

GCA 1968 had happened in the meantime. :(

It is my understanding that the Sherry/Auto Nine was no longer being made..
If I remember correctly this version of the Auto Nine is the later version, the first being made by some other company and it had functioning problems..Believe it was stainless and blue, nice looking but...

I believe you are right about hi velocity ammo but that is all I buy
now as the Cienier kit on a 1911 demands it..
Don't know if I will bother with trying to get the little gun working
as it doesn't interest me that much any more..Wonder what they are worth on the used market...
I don't mean to imply that it doesn't work, just needs the right ammo I believe..

Junk...a better made Raven or Lorcin.

I saw one in a pawn shop two or three weeks ago..it was anodized red I beleive. They wanted $150 for it. Its probably still there.

Thinking about it I remember that the suggested ammo was Rem. golden bullet and that worked allright..Will have to get a box just to see..Maybe try Stingers too..

I've got one of the FTL AUTO NINE's and I need a firing pin/striker for it. The gun was dry fired too much and the pin will no long reach the rim. Any ideas out there?

Badger,
Thanks for the info. I got this gun back when I had an FFL. I got 2 of them in and sold one to a LEO he had and shot it for about a month and then came back because if fired out of battery and blew of the extractor somewhere when he used it to finish a mostly dead dog. I kept the other one and never had a problem with it. His we sent back and when he got it back it worked fine. The last I know he still had it. I'd like to get mine working 'cause it was always a nice little gun.
Thanks,Rich

Was lucky a few years ago when the extractor popped out and lost the little pin that goes behind it..Northwest Firearms,I think it was, had some new and old parts from last maker available..Believe they were even putting together a few Sherry's for sale..
Seems that the web site is not there anymore so have no idea where one might find parts..Too bad because it is sort of an easy carrying weapon..Just stick in the watch pocket in your jeans and it is good to go..
Perhaps not the best for CCW but better than nothing any day..

I just recently picked up a Sherry. I cleaned it this morning and went to the range. It funtioned perfectly the first 3 or 4 mags but after that it would get a failure to feed jam about once a magazine. I guess it doesn't like to be dirty. I was using Remington Golden High Velocity HP's. Would you think the very small hollow point would be the cause? I don't know much about rimfire ammo but the hollowpoint opening seemed so small that it doesn't seem possible it could be the problem. Any ideas?

Most pocket .22's prefer high velocity ammo with full-weight 37-40gr bullets. The hollow point wouldn't normally make a difference, but you didn't fully describe the type of malfunction you were experiencing.

I use CCI Exclusively for pistols, Velociters or Mini-Mag. The hollow-point probably won't help you much if any. Out of that barrel, I doubt you'd get expansion. I doubt you'd WANT expansion either. You'd trade it off for penetration. Think Ronald Reagan and James Brady. Had Hinckley had some Velociter, we might have had George Bush Sr. as president earlier and no "roller vegetable" at anti-gun events.

Thank you for your thoughts. The jam that I experienced was the nose getting caught on the edge of the chamber. One of them was caught on the upper part and I stuck my finger in and pushed on the cartridge and it went in. I can't remember if they were all like that. I don't think so. I'll have to pay more attention. I was really at the range to fire my two carry guns and the Sherry was just for fun.

The reason I had the hollow points is that was all I could find around here with the ammo shortage. I wouldn't trust a 22lr for a carry gun. As I've been told it wasn't really designed for an autoloader and you seem to get duds more often. But they are cheap and fun!

I wonder if 22 shorts feed more reliably (not in this gun of course). Since they aren't so long compared to their width it would seem they would work better.

Got a Sherry earlier this year.

First time at the range was pretty bad. I was running std velocity 22lr and it had failures to eject. Chamber was really tight. I used a reamer to loosen it up a bit, cleaned the gun & tried again. Next time was much better. Repeated the procedure and next time was nearly flawless w/std velocity ammo. Final time I didn't have a problem.

Haven't tried HV ammo yet, probably won't need to.

Now, on to that AMT Backup 22lr not ejecting properly...

I had one about 1981 and it was one of the worst guns I've ever had. The first time I shot it, the extractor broke. It was my fault, so I thought, I didn't shoot the "standard velocity" stuff it supposedly needed, so off it went to FTL and when it came back, I shot it it with the exact ammo recommended. And the extractor broke again, on the 3rd shot. When it was fixed again, I sold it on consignment, and the new owner had the extractor break again, shooting the exact same recommended ammo. I don't know what happened to it after that. I went on to buy several more little BUGs before going back to what just plain worked, a Beretta 950 .25. I still have that gun, and it has some nicks on it, but it's never missed a beat.

The original Auto Nine did indeed have a weak extractor design. This was corrected on the later Auto Nine and Wilkinson Sherry with the removable breech insert. The later ones function very well.

Interesting, I've never heard of a Sherry having a tight chamber. Glad you got it sorted out. They were designed to be used with high velocity ammo but if yours works with standard velocity, might as well use that! As with all .22's, some ammo works in a gun, some doesn't. If you need any parts, we've got them!
