I am not sure if there will be a small gap near the dust cover? I want to put a Colt Commander slide on a Colt Officer frame. Will this work? If there is no gap do I have to worry about headspace or any other dangerous condition?
Thanks for any help here.

it slides right on... no spacing issues. you will be making what colt calls a "concealed carry officer model" or a "C.C.O.".

I have done this to two guns and IMHO they make the perfect carry gun.

It should fit, but as 1911tuner says check for any tolerance stacking, this hole off a little, that one a little, and both make up a problem. It you do this, do every safety check you can particularly the disconnector. The timing of the link also needs to be checked. The head space come from the barrel and the slide and how they lock up.

Most issues you might have would be safety interactions and timing of link down.

Brian is correct, check (or better yet have a gunsmith) ALL disconnectors line up, link/barrel stop mate to frame and you should have no problems.

IMHO, the 'reverse' is better, an Officers slide mated to a Lightweight Commader frame gives you a good sized carry package that you can really get your hand around.

Colt produced very few of these in the late 90's as the Commanding Officers Model.
