Will Glock ever "do something else"?

Sure, they're making oodles of money because they have a good product and don't stray from it, but I really like it when gun companies take chances.

I'd really like a Glock 9mm carbine, not based on their pistols, that took G18 mags (and 17, 19, 26). I have no idea what it would look like, but it would be interesting.

Have there been any Glock prototypes of other things over the years?

The only thing they are doing these days is taking an aweswome gun (3rd gen) and making it uglier (4th gen).

But yes, a Glock brand semi-auto carbine would be awesome. 33rd mags would be perfect.

Ha..you probably aren't the only one who feels that way. I happen to think the 3rd gen guns w/ the finger grooves look the best. I don't care for ambi mag releases or anything crazy like that. Give me a 3rd gen 19 with night sights and I'm happy.

I think that's the closest that we have today since it takes Glock magazines.

Probably some gun companies are happier making oodles of money off a good product than taking chances, and I am not a big "change for the sake of change" guy, but I'll participate since this is effectively a GLOCK wish-list:

1. 36 with full size grip frame (vs. current 2-finger grip frame & grippable mag extension configuration).
2. Single-stack 19
3. Single-stack 10mm
4. More Prac-Tacs (I.E. in 10mm & .45 A.C.P.)
5. Scrap Gen4 L.O.L. because I.D.K. about losing vertical for "signature serrations" like the other polymer makes, because that does not seem like GLOCK's style. And keep ambi optional. I'm not fundamentally opposed to finger-grooves, although I'd prefer no grooves on compacts and subs (I.E. they either shrink the F.G.'s spacing or lose one groove entirely), but that's J.M.O. and Y.M.M.V.
6. Fine. A GLOCK 9mm carbine!

Reminds me to the way some auto makers for the longest time ignored declining sales, resale price declines, new idea and things that are important to customers, thinking that they would always be what they once were. The train is passing you by glock and you had better adapt if you want to remain a player.

Glock will remain a player no matter how many newer designs pass them by as long as their quality control is well quality. When you have that big a share of both the LE and Civy markets it will take some time to knock them down...

Heck GM is still #1 and they are darn near bankrupt.

But resting on your laurels....Yes I say make the same gun they have always made but add new lines (don't get rid of the old) add some wrinkles not a few new cosmetic things.

A Glock .22lr (as opposed to the conversion kits available) would probably sell like crazy, although that's not really different. Should do one in each existing size. 26; 19; 17; etc.

I suspect that Glock could continue to turn out the same models for another 25 years and people would continue to buy them as they have for the past 25 years.

It is proof that a well-conceived pistol design, solidly executed and properly controlled for quality will become a permanent, almost timeless, standard. Other than some minor design "tweaks", it is not at all that different from another benchmark design, the Model 1911. It, too, remains quite like it was first designed and over the last eighty or so years has seen what amounts to minor design "tweaks" and folks still buy them up like crazy.

Both are great designs. Both will continue to sell "as is" for the foreseeable future.

If you really think about it why should they do something else? They have one of the top selling pistol lines in the world, let alone the USA. Thay hold multiyear deals with many major local, state and federal LE agancies and just about everyone who owns one loves them.

I wish they would get rid of that 2 piece trigger safety.

The style of trigger safety on Glocks and XD's are the #1 reason keeping me from ever owning one. Probably poor technique on my part, but for whatever reason the two part trigger pinches my finger terribly. Depending on the caliber, after just a few shots I can't stand it and start having flinch not from the recoil anticipation but from the trigger sting.

Maybe make it like the M&P one.

+1 on single stack Glock 19 and single stack Glock 26. It would make CCW with a 9mm Glock nicer due to the width savings.

+1 on .22LR Glock in a 19 size and a 26 size. Although, the Advantage Arms .22 conversion kit is quite good. Still, I think I'd have no jams with a dedicated .22LR Glock.

I don't think it should have the modified browning lockup though. But it should use glock mags and have a glock gripframe.

Ah yes, the old Glock factory carbine coming out next year rumors. I remember joining GlockTalk back in Jun 2002 and folks were talking about, and even in some threads a few years older, that Glock was going to announce/release a brand new carbine rifle that takes G17 and G18 mags at the 2003 SHOT Show. Well, the 2003 SHOT Show came and went (no announcement) and sure enough later that year they were talking about the release was going to be announced at the 2004 SHOT show. This has been going on and on since. Here we are 2008, and still no formal announcement from Glock on a carbine/rifle. A few years ago, I finally ended up buying a Beretta CX4 Storm (92FS mag version) carbine and am fairly happy with it. Bottom line is, I really doubt a Glock factory 9mm (or any other caliber (like .223) for that matter) carbine rifle with ever be released (IMHO).

A single stack 9mm compact or sub-compact and also a full size frame single stack .45ACP (8rd mags) I could see being released by Glock eventually down the road (cross our fingers).
