I am sitting on 4 battlepacks of Hirt with a rather copious amount of brass that I reload...is this stuff ever coming back?

I hope and pray that it does...IMO this is the cream of the milsurp crop...I know that IMI and LC are boxer, too...but it seems, to me at least, that the Hirt was just easier to process after initial firing than LC and IMI.

Anybody know if it is?

I'm sitting on over a thousand rounds of Hirtenberger, and I share your high opinion of it. It shoots 1.5 MOA in a Steyr Scout, and is easily the most accurate milsurp ammo I've ever used. I think it's still available now and again, but only in small lots, and you have to jump on it when you find some.

I can only hope...I feel so stuipid due to when I first started shooting I was getting the stuff years ago at 35 dollars per battle pack...and of course I wasn't reloading at that time...I kick myself for the amount of brass I left at the range. :(

I am sure I blew through at least 4 cases of the stuff....stuipid...

I know a guy who does just that. He goes to gunshows and buys cases and cases of ammo, and stores them in his (dry, climate controlled, enormous) basement. He will then wait for somethign to happen in the market (like, say, all the Hirt drying up), and he will then sell his supply for a little less than the going rate, which is, of course, also a massive profit for him. What he doesn't sell he just shoots.

He also apparently bought a whole lot (read: thousands) of magazines in 1993-ish, and was all sold out by 2003. He basically runs his own little store out of his basement.

He's got a good thing going. Me? I'm not that patient. My wife would also not like the idea of having the entire frigging basement filled floor to ceiling with cases of Lake City M2 Ball.

I may be wrong, but I think Hirtenberger is now out of the small-arms ammo business. The Austrians, and other customers, still have large stocks of it though, and more could appear at any time. As said previously, grab it if you see it.

Never had the pleasure of getting Hirtenberger, but I am anxiously waiting for Aussie surplus to come out again. (Crosses fingers)

Ditto on Hirt being good stuff...

I'd be really happy of another shipment of Portugeuse 7.62 Nato made it here though....
