Will my gun cycle these loads OK?

Hey, I went and picked up some Remington ammunition for my newly purchased 11-87 SP 12 gauge. They are 2 3/4 inch with a velocity of 1290, 1 oz 8 shot game loads.

Haven't had a chance to shoot her yet and just wanted to make sure I was feeding her the right stuff!

Thanks!

It should cycle those loads fine. Might be about as light as you'll want to go, but your particular 11-87 may not even care.

Not a Problem

Shot plenty of light target loads through an 11-87 SP. 2 3/4", 2 3/4 Dram Eq. (~1145 fps), 1 1/8 oz. Cycled 'em every time. Have fun!

It all depends on the particular 11-87. I feed mine a majority of light 1oz loads that are my handloads, we are talking about 1120fps+or-. But, each gun is a bit different, hope you have a good one that will cycle what you want.

I have heard from others that the jamming issue was with the newer model 11-87's, so hopefully since mine is an 89' it won't have the same problem.

On new shotguns of any make, there's a break in period. Those will probably cycle fine if there's a few hundred rounds through it already, but there may be some glitches if it's brandspankingnew. Don't worry if there are unless they continue past a couple hundred rounds.

Thanks Dave.

I'm not really too sure how many rounds have been through the gun, but judging by its being a 1989 model, I am guessing there should have been quite a few.

Unless it was a target gun, it's unlikely that it has more than a 10th of its life shot out of it, even if it went hunting every weekend in season.

Enjoy that Remington!

I want to get out there and shoot really badly. Just been busy with work.

I was a bit paranoid about the gun handling lighter loads after reading some issues some 11-87's have had. Hopefully mine will treat me right.

I have an 11-87 and have never had a hiccup. It probably has about 3k rounds through it to. It has never jammed or anything.

Agree with Scoupe, kudu and Dave.

Each gun has its druthers on function and patterns.

Pipe cleaner is your friend on gas ports. Dexron II, IIE ( ATF/ transmission fluid) is your friend on lube on gas shotguns.

Ok, so I got to shoot my gun this afternoon, and I'm in love!

This thing points great, and cycled the loads I mentioned above with ease. I had a great time out at the farm playing with the different chokes and such.

I'm going to pull some more clays this weekend for a longer session...

Thanks to all for your input!
