So I have been thinking: California is waaaaayyyyyyy overdue for a major earthquake. According to several sources I've found, "California has a 99.7% chance of having a magnitude 6.7 or larger earthquake during the next 30 years. The likelihood of a more powerful quake of magnitude 7.5 or greater in the next 30 years is 46%." Furthermore, "the probability of a magnitude 6.7 or larger earthquake over the next 30 years striking the greater Los Angeles area is 67%," which would ruin my day if it did, because that's around where I live.
I was talking to some of my friends about this. Some said things like "oh, we'll just call in the National Guard, clean up crews and take the loss without a horrible amount of damage to California as a whole." Others thought that it would be worse than Katrina and leave California (and its neighbor-states) in a crisis state for months.
Either way, I wanted to hear what you folks think. How do you think the "s" will "htf" should this earthquake occur? Will people be rampant, ravaging stores for food and expensive electronics? Will armed people be walking around their neighborhoods in an effort to help police stop criminalization of our cities? Let's presume that the earthquake hits LA and is around a 7.0 to 7.5 magnitude, just to make it relevant to me.:D
