on 1911s next year? It being the centennial and all.
Are any manufacturers planning centennial editions?
Was there on 30-06 in 2006?
Just wondering.

There will probably be a bunch of "commemorative" editions aka regular 1911's with "centennial" or something engraved into the slide and $100 more on the price tag.

The government is going to release hundreds of thousands that have been stored in military armories for decades. They will flood the market in such force that the price of a GI 1911 will drop significantly.
They will become the new inexpensive gun.

Just kidding, Clinton had most of them destroyed in the 90s to insure they never went to civilians.

I'm sure there will be centennial editions, although I think just about everything that can be done to a 1911 has been done (or at least tried) over the last 100 years.

Actually Colt and Springfield Armory (the Arsenal not the Company) were both making 1911s in 1911.

By 1917, Remington-UMC, Winchester, Burroughs Adding Machine Co., Lanston Monotype Machine Co., National Cash Register Co., A.J. Savage Munitions Co., Savage Arms Co., and two Canadian firms, Caron Brothers Mfg. Co., and North American Arms Co., Ltd were all maling 1911s.

Didn't The fist 1911 get handed over to the US ARMY for testing in 1907 and Testing and contract was awarded in 1911 That's why the gun was given model 1911.
So the gun deign was Over a 100 years old 2007.

There's a huge amount of info on this in forums dedicated to 1911s. Many of us have already ordered our Colt centennials (cutoff for orders was Nov. 30).

The linked page says the cutoff for ordering the second gun is 11/30/2011.

I'd buy one to shoot, but it's too much like my WWI Repro. Actually, it's not enough like mine - mine has the Carbonia finish I prefer.

I didn't run out and buy a 30.06 in 2006 or a Mauser 98 in 1998(I already have several) or a Springfield in 2003 so I won't be buying a 1911(mainly because I don't like them) next year.

and yet thousands of them are sitting in CMP warehouses along with more than a couple of M-14's....hmmmm
