And if so how reduced will they be?

I can imagine the Supreme Court overturning Heller within that time.

This could open the door to the federal government outright preempting states on the matter and disallowing concealed carry etc.

What do you all think?

Now really who can predict the future? I dropped my crystal ball. Furthermore I will have been long since been dead, so it won't mean anything to me.

I'd be surprised if there was America in 100 years.

I'll be even more surprised if this thread's around in a hour

I see logic and reason increasing with more information access. I see the hang-ups and ruts of "traditional" knee-jerk leftist thinking (such as the ignorant pervasive anti-gun attitude) falling by the wayside as people are more-and-more challenged to deconstruct the platitudes they've been spoon-fed for several generations. I see our common belief in the sovereignty of the citizen and the responsibility (as well as right) of self-defense spreading and becoming far more common as people the world over begin to wake up and look at the sorry states of those nations that have tried the great disarmament experiment -- and failed universally.

Perhaps I'm too optimistic, but it's either that or complete social devolution into a futuristic kind of serfdom where all peoples are shepherded -- no, herded would be a better description -- by a small (and probably shrinking) collection of oligarchies. And that's just too depressing to contemplate.

So, I think our grandchildren will enjoy a far less restrictive world than we do at the moment. (But the movement has started...we're on the upsurge, even now!)

Best thing you can do to insure that there are some free people left in 100 years, is to educate.

We started with our three children, and now are educating our nine grandchildren, just what freedom means. The grandkids all enjoy shooting at grandma's house, and the brick of ammo it costs me every time they show up is cheap insurance for the future.

You can influence people you have daily contact with also. I've educated several of the farmers I have coffee with every morning. Turned a couple into regular gunnies.

Don't just grouse about it here. Get out and do something about it.

+1 on Larry Ashcroft's comments.

The bottom line is that lots needs to be done right now. And frankly, if we don't get it done, we won't be talking about whether gun rights will exist in 100 years. We'll be talking instead about whether gun rights will exist in four years, or eight years.

The time for talking is pretty much done, anyway. If we aren't activists now -- this very minute; today -- it's a mistake that we'll regret for the rest of our lives ... if only we live so long.

Right on Larry and Searcher, the time to talk is over. Grass roots activism, if there is a "tea party" near you, attend it and let your voice be heard, mail an empty tea bag to your senators, congressmen, president etc. It is time we stood up like our ancestors and say enough is enough!!!

"I can imagine the Supreme Court overturning Heller within that time." When did the Supreme court ever overturn one of it's own decisions?

actually in 100 years, expect a totalitarian society as described by the great writer George Orwell in Animal Farm, 1984, and Fahrenheit.

Actually since we pretty much live in that society already, only a fool would assume that they would give up there power.
Theyve already destroyed 90% of the infrastructure that we would need in order to mobilize the nation to create enough supplies to fight WW2.
Theyve already managed to create a society in which the only thing that matters is instant gratification and nonstop luxury pampering. Look at the 6 year olds getting daily manicure and spa treatments, and then look at the socalled social workers, psychologists and "intelectual" portions of the world who tell us that we must go into debt to do that for our children or well be horribly "abusing them".

Look at Japan in the last decade. Theyve re written their history books and have a whole generation of japanese citizens who actually believe that the japanese military did absolutely nothing to anyone in ww2 other then to send in NATO style "peacekeapers" into china to "prevent mass war on japan" from chinese forces that had no interest in fighting japan.

So in a hundred years, this whole world is going to be so screwed up, that the surface dwellers in "The Time Machine' will have better luck when they go into the orlock caves when the bomb sirens go off.

No one can know. Like many above have stated, we must press on. Never give up the fight. If we lose the 2nd. we will lose them all.

Considering the number of "murder sprees" in the last month....I'll be surprised if there are any gun/2nd amendment rights in 100 DAYS, let alone years.

Work hard on our congress critters...they don't listen to us very often.

Racial segregation immediately comes to mind. Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka overturned Plessy v. Ferguson. (Plessy held separate but equal was constitutional. They repealed that in Brown v. Board.)

The Supreme Court doesn't make a habit of reversing itself but it does happen every now and again.

I really think some other weapon will come down the pike, complete with all-new restrictions. Guns are very old-fashioned when you think about it.

You can complain to your leaders all you want, they have that option of telling you no. Only way to secure our rights is to put the government in check. doesnt mean an armed conflict, could be the threat of one from the people. they say you cant make the horse drink water, but if he had the knowledge to know what the threat of being killed or relieved meant, he wouldnt hesitate to drink every drop. but most people are afraid of their government, which is exactly where your leaders want you. put them in check and see how they act. I still think we should put a gallow on the white house lawn, after one year if you mess everything up, or try to screw over on the people, well you die.

Equal schooling is not really in the range of the Supreme court[not that ever bothers them] but Heller was a direct,no balony bill of rights issue. I just do not see it overturned.

The rapture may occur first.
I will wave goodbye to Pelosi and Friends as I ascend with my other Christian gun loving friends.

I don't expect the United States will exist in 100 years, although I do expect areas of freedom (Montana and Idaho come to mind).
Ever seen the movie "The Postman"? Something like that, I expect.

If the US does fall, it'll be from internal strife (not necessarily civil war) rather then external forces.
