the saiga, in 16 in bbl version, is under 8 lbs, I do believe. Having had two of them , they are also both moa capable. I did it all the time with milsurp ammo, Either former british empire ammo, such as singapore, american, australiian, american, etc., NOT INDIAN!!! Also all the former S. american nazi stuff was very good, i.e. venezuelan, chilean, argentine.
One of my best shooting gigs, was with the Saiga. At the 100 yd line, I loaded up my 4 mags, I had modded them, to take 10 rounds, instead of factory 8. I put a 3 inch cirlce , shoot n see target out at 100. I then proceeded to fire all the rounds in the mags, reloaded, fired again, and reloaded two more mags, and fired them off. 100 rounds. With the standard open sites, I hit that 3 inch target 96 times. That was an average of one shot per 18 seconds, though it was actually much faster, since I finished with about 5 minutes to go, plus I reloaded. it really came off like 1 shot per 7 to 10 seconds. So I would also say, that unless you are just freefire pulling the trigger, i would not worry about heating up the bbl so much, that you lose accuracy.

Saiga 308 is incredible bang for the buck!

Saiga is a good gun that will do anything you ever need it to do for < $400. SOCOM is a good gun that will do anything you ever need it to do for < $1700. They are both good guns but only one has a good price. I have a 308 Saiga and it is one of my top 3 favorites. I had a SOCOM and was never happy with it. For that much money get a STG58 while you still can. PTR91's are awesome too and mags are cheap.

I still own an M1A Bush rifle, (Same as Scout without the goofy scopoe mount) and a Saiga .308
I no longer own an SKS but I do own an Egyptian sporter AKM and may soon sell the Saiga,(running out of steel case .308 ammunition.).

Does any of this help in your decision??
